Using generic off-the-shelf parts rather than custom parts makes maintenance easier, and discussing with folks using them with their own results on other platforms is enlightening and helps with the decision making process, far more than a custom turbo supposedly specced for your engine by someone who is just playing around with wheel trims and assuming for the best. If plug and play is more important to you than trying to understand the physics involved, and how off-the-shelf, "neutral" parts help getting there, then fine, but, and again, don't make them sound there are suddenly parts that redesign the wheel. "State of the art" only lasts until the next improvement, when there is even any, which is not even the case here.

You started having a go at me because I pointed out initially that there was nothing in your post aside from being vacuous advertisement for some products you presented as redesigning the wheel.

Don't you think that making a separate thread for each new thing you want to talk about and that you have tried and tested yourself would have been more appropriate?

I thought this board was set up to encourage proper content, with folks having things to say rather than just wanting to say something or promote stuff. I am clearly wasting my time/life in this thread with someone showing signs of cognitive retard.

Huh? Do you know the guy who made my turbo personally and saying this as fact or is it just your invaluable opinion?

You have no idea of what I do or do not know, nor my understanding of physics. Do you want to discuss the 11 dimensions of string theory?
The SPE HG is off the shelf Einstein *facepalm again*

I own what I was talking about and wasn't enticing anyone to buy them and you are welcome to tell us all what you can do to improve the platform. I'll wait...

I was just trying to start a discussion and see what others were doing to advance the platform ass there are many advancements happening globally, instead of this $hit fight you started Thom

I was wanting to add content to discuss but then you started slamming it, so I guess it didn't meet your criteria of proper content did it. Do we need to send all points for discussion for your approval now?
You are a disgraceful human and you maybe the first member here but I can't see any valuable content you have provided or actually any content at all. Pat yourself on the back caveman as people like you, are why forums like this turn into cliques and don't grow. I am still waiting for any useful input from you but I won't hold my breath.
It would be cognitive retardation by the way but I guess as a retard, I wouldn't know that would I caveman?

Insert what I am doing here

...It's a really great time for our platform with all these new options opening up. What changes and options are everyone else using or planning?
What about this wasn't inviting discussion?
What about this was so hard to understand or required so much negative BS and insults etc?

Blah blah blah, you sound like a broken record and I won't bother making my point over again against your flawed rhetoric. At least I was able to debunk that you are, sadly and to my disappointment, just another one among an army of fools who easily fall for shiny products, and being considered a "disgraceful human" actually validates the process. Thank you and have a nice day.

You didn't debunk anything, you skirted around the subject at hand the whole time and then became a pathetic, stuck in your ways, antagonist for no reason
You are most welcome. see ya

It requires a MAP sensor on intake which is hardly a massive mod to use VEMS. Personally I was already running a DP wastegate and EBC with factory ECU so not relevant to ECU install. I later added wasted spark and also deleted cycling valve. I am still using S&R sensors but can add a trigger wheel and as many have done this with VEMS knowledge for that is readily accessible. That is the thing, I have options as it is a proper stand alone, so I can change things and simply do an auto tune or go to dyno etc, so while the MAP sensor means it is not 100% plug n play technically, it is in fact plug n play otherwise and far cheaper than any other option I could find. Yes factory wiring is a limit but as I had already replaced most it wasn't for me as this an unlimited budget build. So while you think its not important and limiting, it was very important to me.

The turbo bolts up and sure V bands better but thanks for upping my budget massively. This turbo is not a compromise as far as limiting my choice. Look into it, as its not a LR super 61 (90's tech), etc, it is as good or better than most options you can fit, modified fabrication or not. Look into it Chris, before you dismiss it out of hand based on incorrect assumptions. If I had the budget I could have got you to build me a great set up, but living on an island that just wasn't feasible option, as you would understand, although I know you have done it before and currently, for non US residents.

Surely you can understand that while I respect the great work you do, you are not the only option out there and for some, like me, not a realistic option either and so plug n play and bolt up makes a massive difference to what I can achieve, without shipping an engine over to you? Yes plug n play is a compromise but my car started first time when I fitted it unlike another option I tried that came from US and wasted over a year of my life and the expense that went along with that. Would I love a better custom set up with V bands etc, sure but I know I will achieve my goals without it.

No the HG is not just a repackaged O ring set up, as again that would be a major expense and this HG isn't a major expense. Again I say tough crowd and I'd love to have the budgets you all have but unfortunately life doesn't always work that way. I will report back in a year, and in 2 years, and 3 years, etc, and probably well before that too. Just because its isn't you doing it, doesn't make it hype either, as people are already out there loving the results, not to mention what is happening in Europe with Augtronics and other options. No offense Chris but this was meant to be a discussion and it keeps turning into a pi$$ing contest. You do great work and while I respect that, I am not asking for your permission or blessing, as its not about you but the platform. You are one very talented man but you are not the only one with talents or doing innovative stuff
Ok, I have to give you credit on that post. Earlier post seem to say that these products were the absolute best things for the platform and that is why I got cranky. In reality they are compromises. We all live with compromises, if we didn’t we would all be driving 911 GT3 or some such car. Compromises are personal decisions, such as standalone. Even the Link stuff I like is a compromise- it’s not Motec…and it’s no where near that price. I could easily make a plug and play Link set up that costs less than VEMS (yes, I looked at going that) but I have seen too many bad stock harnesses and you loose a lot of the abilities of a modern ECU. But I’m in a different position, I can’t sell a kit to someone assuming their stock harness and sensors are 100% reliable.
So life with a 944 will always be some sort of a compromise and I appreciate that your last post described what and why you accepted your compromises - they are probably perfect for you and that’s great, I’m happy for you (I mean that, not being condescending).

Cheers Chris.
I did mention other things happening in my first post(besides what I am doing) like Augtronic, Focus9, and maxxecu etc. At the moment kroon wiring harnesses, are working on a plug n play replacement harness for maxxecu and I am sure you are aware that their(Kroon) replacement harnesses, that they already do for most Porches(including 944), are arguably better than factory, so that is exciting advancement IMO. Focus9 are in process of adding ODBII and tuning capability for their excellent replacement solid state ECU. These are not shiny new things to me but real advances for the platform and was hoping others are excited by these things and where they can take our cars in the future.

Yes, without an unlimited budget, its always about what compromises work best for the individual, but as we get more options and advances, then we can all choose better options and find the ones that have least compromises for our needs.

One comment on the turbo (nothing to do with the actual turbo) - the frickken engineer that designed how it bolts up to the crossover and down pipe should be shot, after working on a ton of these the v band clamp change is worth every penny!! That one bolt that you can only turn 1/12 of a rotation at a time….Jesus.
One thing I learned even before working on other people’s 944 - build it so that you can maintain it easier. Initially I added a 3 bolt flange to every crossover pipe near to the down pipe flange. That way I could undo the cross over and down pipe and then lift the whole turbo assembly out with our touching the ‘obno’ bolts!

I'm begging you guys, sincerely, no personal attacks. We started Carpokes to be a civil, inviting and friendly alternative to places that -- excuse me for saying it out loud -- promote fighting and personal attacks in order to generate traffic for profit. That's not the Carpokes way. I hold everyone in this thread in very high regard, and am hoping you can step back and help set a positive example about how folks can disagree on things like gentlemen.
