Very happy to announce that Carpokes has become a sponsor of 944Fest '22 and related 9Fest, September 1 - 4. Attending one of these events has been on my bucket list for years. Time will tell if I can make it this year, but either way Carpokes will be there in spirit with door prizes and a few surprises. 8-) Read all about the event here:

https://www.9fest.com/carpokes.html

To help encourage Carpokeans to register early, Carpokes will give away a free Rennbay fuel line kit ($110 value) to the first 5 Carpokeans who register for the event. When my fuel lines recently blew a leak, Travis jumped to my aid and had a set of lines on my porch in just a few days. The lines are particularly nice because they have custom fittings that avoid the stacked adapters seen on most other kits. See picture below. To get your set, just register for 944Fest and post in this thread. The first 5 people to do so will get free fuel lines!

Carpokes and its owner, Amalgamated Tom LLC, are providing financial and in-kind support to 944Fest because Carpokes is all about helping Porsche fans enjoy their cars and the camaraderie that comes with them. That's what 944Fest is all about too, so it was a natural. Carpokes is merely a well-wishing sponsor, however, and one of many, with no input or control over the event, or any proprietary interest in it, and is not responsible in any way for any aspect of the event or its registration process.

In! I was at the 944 Fest in 2013 and it was my first track event. Then things went bad at Nelson Ledges and I didn't think I'd ever drive there again. Glad to see it's back up and running. And I had just changed my fuel lines with the Rennbay kit a year or so before that, so it's probably pretty good timing for a new set ;)

It's not a contest -- just be one of the first 5 to register for 944Fest and report said registration here, and they are yours. :)

If you do it before your car goes up in smoke, you win!

Got my fuel lines. Thanks!

I have a couple of questions:

1. When installing Rennbay lines for the second time, do I still have to cut the hard lines again? Or can I attach the new ones in the same place?

2. What does everyone think about putting some kind of protective sleeve around the lines? That way if it ever leaks, it might not spray all over the engine bay (I think that's what saved Tom's car).

You could try Fire Proof sleeve from Pegasus Auto Racing Supplies or Stratoflex Firesleeve from Aircraft Spruce and Specialty. I've seen pictures of 944/951 engines with similar products, but have not tried myself.

I tried to get the old compression fitting off mine but couldn't, so had to cut the fuel line just below the old fitting. Once I got it off, I took the old fitting to the vice to see if I could get the remaining tube out, and it simply would not budge. Maybe there's some secret to it, but 5 minutes on google didn't yield anything....

Unfortunately, I cut the pipe such that the new compression fitting sits right next to (or on top of) the little stud that sticks out of the wall for the hold-down clamp. I would have cut it lower, but the hose wasn't long enough. As these compression hoses get older and people start replacing them, I'm thinking those who sell them may need to start making 'one-over' lengths for this situation....

As for covers, I see no real down side personally. Some folks have said they want to 'see' the hose so they can spot leaks sooner, but I dunno. Are you going to spot a leak before it's a leak? Are you going to miss the smell of fuel once it leaks? When/if it leaks, wouldn't you rather channel the fuel into the wheel well away from the exhaust? I'd also note that when you buy replacement lines from Porsche, they ship with an aluminized fiber heat shield/tube now -- so even the factory has decided it's a good idea. Summit Racing has endless heat shield sheathing -- just be sure to get one that will also double as a fuel leak detour tube. :)
