I am trying to create a new solution to this since it doesn't seem like getting the actual tool is an option anymore. I figured I should start here and look at what has been done. I'll post my progress once finished!

Not sure I follow your comment? The original tool is indeed available these days, though the price makes it impractical for most DIYers. Our Carpokes tool faithfully reproduces the factory tension level and is available as a free download to print yourself, or as a $40 purchase fully assembled and ready to use.

Sorry if it's been asked before: the 3D printed tools can be used on other vehicle belts correct?

It's designed to work on 8-valve 944 timing belts. No real way to use it only anything else...

I need to try this tool out. I cannot find a Arnn Works belt tensioner gauge and I don't know where to buy one. I am 17 years old and I tried to do my timing belts on my 944. everything worked well except for the fact that my belt was too loose and not spinning my water pump I need to tension the belt properly.

If I understand the video on a new belt I should hit 7ft/lbs at the N mark (installing a new belt). I used a digital torque wrench set to 7ft/lbs and adjusted the tension to where it hits 7ft/lbs at the N mark.

But.... Every video I watch says I should be able to barely move the water pump pulley. At 7ft/lbs I can't, at around 5ft/lbs I can.

What should I do in this case? Set it at 7ft/lbs then slowly a back off until I can rotate the water pump pulley or leave it like it is?
