We may have to iterate a bit, but maybe the best start is to either draw a picture by hand with dimensions or post a on of pictures with ruler/caliper measurements so I can get something started....
I don’t have my drawing tools, so I’m using a ruler and pencil only but this is what I have so far. I’ll get you a final drawing by tomorrow!

Tom --

Can we open a "3D Printing" forum? I've been observating as the technology has blossomed but have yet to actually pull the trigger on anything. I have a few decades of 3D CAD development experience with AutoCAD, hoping that might translate well to one of the more applicable soft design platforms. Now that I have a couple "extra" hours available, it might be a good time to actually get going.

New 3D Cad and Printing Forum -> Bob Makes A Decision -> The growing pains (often called "learning curve") -> Parts and Pieces Made!

And Darwin --

It's often easier to define a support like this if you can also add the dims of the actual speaker you want to use. Do you want the new mount to cover the rim of the tweeter to hide the new color plus secure it in place at the same time? Also, add the center-to-center dimension for the mounting holes. (sorry if I jumped the gun on you Tom...)

The drawing above was a preliminary drawing. I did add the overall dimensions of the speaker. All I have available besides my dial caliper is my sons school ruler. All my measuring equipment is currently at my school, and I can't go there right now because we had a COVID exposure and they are decontaminating the entire hangar :( As for your other suggestions, on the 944, the speaker mount is hidden behind cloth lined grills so nothing will be visible. It would be nice to be able to recess the speaker about 2-3mm into the bracket, but I don't know if 1) it would be necessary and 2) the added material underneath the flange may interfere with existing structure around the mounting area in both the rear and the front. All things to consider though if this does end up being printed.

FWIW, the ID I gave in the above drawing for the tweeter cavity is .005 over measured OD of the tweeter itself.

No, that's all good. I "think" I sorted the dimensions center-to-center etc. but don't see this one....

dr bob, I'm using Fusion 360, which is an AutoCAD product. I've used SolidWorks and FreeCAD in the past and love Fusion 360 in comparison. Much more intuitive than the others, while still being pretty powerful. I'm sure true AutoCAD and other pro packages can do oodles more in the hands of a pro, but like my Porsches, Fusion 360 has more potential than I'll ever use.... i.e., I'm a hack :) I've been meaning to update the list of forums here, so I may just do that. I honestly think 3D printing is a skill/tool that is up there with welding and machining for car people.

Tom, I'm sorry I forgot that! I was enjoying some Jameson and it was late...so I was worried I may have forgotten. I didn't have a super accurate way to measure hole center to hole center, which is why I gave hole center to the edge of the piece (I still had to "eyeball" it some). I'm still new to creating drawings, and outside of the test drawings we did in class, this is my first that anyone may actually use.

@Tom To address your question, flange thickness is .100"

It would be nice if the tweeter could recess a bit. Maybe 2mm or so, but not sure if that’s possible? Also, hole center to hole center is 2.363" by my caliper (I used the centers of the mounting studs on the trim).

That's per woofer. The P/N you posted is $100.26 at Delaware.

Do the rear quarter windows need to come out to replace those? Just thinking ahead for my cars.

My 951 used to be my son's until he gave it to me a couple of years ago. Back in 1997 he replaced the tweeters in the front doors and the speakers in the doors with something aftermarket, but those receipts are missing from the stack, so I'm not sure what's in there. The front tweeters don't fit as flush as they should so the cover trim has a bit of wobble. Would be nice to install something like you are working on, with the new 3D printed attachment of course, ha, ha. There's also an amp in the left rear cubby and I assume an appropriate crossover for the old Sony CD unit which I may replace with the Porsche Classic Radio I purchased a few years ago. Like a lot of my parts it's still in the box, LOL!

$116 was from Porsche Marin after shipping and tax. As far as replacement, I can’t really see you being able to access all the screws that hold the woofer in place without removing the window and pulling the c-pillar trim away, unfortunately.

So far it looks like the front door woofers and tweeters are NLA, but the rear woofer and front mids are still available. The woofer is pricey, it the front mids are $40 I believe.

I want to change over to this headunit!
