Does anyone here have experience with the green Manthey pads for iron rotors for street driving?

It's time to replace the pads on our Spyder and we do like the dual duty (controversial) the stock ones provide.
We only do about 4-6 track days a year, rest is mostly weekends short drives/canyon runs (Southern California).
I'm interested to hear about others' experience with the Manthey pads on the street.

The pricing between the two is minimal right now so I figure to do a little research on them since they provide better track performance in general, but worried about street performance (not noise or dust). There's not many posts out there on this outside of 1 or 2 where there's mention of cold performance being an issue until warmed up, etc.

 Yes, I'm too lazy to swap pads prior to track weekends, but on the flip side the track is about 3+ hours away so will need to be sure on street performance at least at that level.

Would be interested to hear from anyone on Manthey pads , but I will toss out my recommendation of the Ferodo DS3.12 ( thanks to J-Dub and blueline ). I have not switched them out, they don't happen to squeak on the street , though some say they do have a mild noise, but the stopping power on track is impressive. For me I don't see any change throughout a 15-20 session and I will replace them with the same pad in the future. With various vehicles I have owned over the past 3 decades plus I was able to use or test BrakeMan, Hawk, EBC, G-Loc, Performance Friction, Pagid, etc. I was lucky enough to test some of these as the Dealership I worked at had a Motorsports Division and in some cases I ran various pads for free. All of this said I would rank the DS3.12s in the top tier if not possibly number one. Like you, though, it would be interesting to see what comes from the current Porsche Aftermarket Motorsport King.

I don't have any experience with the Manthey Brake pads. As Bill said, once I went to the 3.12 I have not looked back. They have been just phenomenal, maybe the only downside is they are not cheep but neither are the other options out there.

I do find it interesting that Manthey offer stainless steel braided brake lines. I have been wondering if these are a marketing thing or if they would be really noticeable on our cars. I know in the old days the rubber portion of the brake lines were not structurally sported but in the last 20-30 years the lines are reinforced with cross weave fibers.

I wonder what the price is on the Manthey lines since my house is paid for and I don't want to take out a home equity loan for a set, ha! The Ferodo pads are pretty pricey also, but it would be interesting to find out who makes the Manthey ones as that is definitely something they would out source.

Mathey's steel braided lines look identical to FVD ones (I think I read somewhere they're the same manufacturer).
I ended up ordering a pair from EU and some how got delivered next day from NL to SoCal :o (they're ~$200 + shipping).

While still contemplating I saw how "cheap" (under $300 USD!) it is to purchase Endless MX-72 Plus from Japan.
Friend of mine is picking up a set for me on his way back.
What was intriguing is reports of feeling very close to stock GT Pagids while offering higher ceiling temp and improved modulation. The missus who primary the Spyder on track liked the sound of that so will be trying those out. She's been happy with stock pads but is getting better so putting more heat than they can start to handle.

How are the DS3.12 on the factory rotors? My research indicated they were rather harsh on them (iron rotors).
How are they cold? One of our worries is not getting enough heat in them on the commute to either canyons or track.

In my opinion, Ferodo DS3.12 pads are among the best that money can buy when paired with proper race-oriented rotors. Will they chew up factory rotors? You bet! I put a set on my GT4 at the beginning of track season in 2021. After approx 4,000 miles on the Ferodo pads, 975 of which were hard track miles, the front Porsche OEM rotors were shot - complete toast. The rear OEM rotors were still mostly ok, but that's as expected. (The OEM rotors had 6,270 miles on them from new, including the miles on factory pads.)

I replaced all four rotors back then with AP Racing Competition J-Hook rotors and a fresh set of Ferodo DS3.12 pads all around that I had pre-bedded by Essex Parts/Racing. It's an awesome combo for my GT4 and I've never looked back.

The Ferodos are fine when first out. Bite is immediate if not sooner. In reality, I find that it only takes a few stops before they are at 100%. That's largely due to proper burnishing too. Of course, that's with the Ferodos and racing rotors. I don't remember how quickly they came to proper braking on the OEM rotors; however, I don't recall any issues so it must have also been quick.

A little plug for the Essex fellows - they are great guys and know brakes and racing. I love 'em. They have a wonderful FAQ-type learning page with brake oriented articles, how-tos, and videos.

Here's an oldie but a goodie from them on proper brake bedding - what it is and what it entails:

Wow the FVD lines really are affordable, nice lead @gzxfia

As far as the cold bite of the 3.12, I agree with the others they are great cold. I have low dust street pads on another car and I prefer the 3.12s for every aspect. I can't tell if they are hard on the rotors or tracking is hard on rotors. I presume that the tracking is more than anything what wars pads and rotors. The confidence that comes from good brakes is not worth the compromise anyway.

We have not answered the original question unfortunately as I have no experience. Possibly one of the European based Porsche discussion boards would be more help.

@gzxfia

As you may have found out the Manthey green pads are manufactured by Pagid which offers many choices for both steel and PCCB. Have you looked through their catalog? It is likely the steel rotors are using something similar to the RSL-1 pad.
