Clear engine cover and accessories

Another awesome enthusiast contribution. I noticed in the forms there is a note dissuading use of the clear cover for trackday cars. Mine is a dual use with maybe a couple of events a year so I'm wondering what drives that caution. Is the concern that the extensive use of the engine drives very high temperatures which might compromise the cover? Or something else?

Thanks in advance, the wife and I agree its an incredible option and I could see myself pursuing this excepting clarification here.

Good question Sportbiker and I would be interested in hearing why the concern as I have a friend who makes it to almost every PCA track event for the Great Plains Region and he has the cover on his Cayman, though it is a 987. I track mine and love the look and have considered doing the conversion but you now bring up a possible issue so hopefully we will hear from others.

I include the warning about track day usage because the clear engine cover modifies the firewall. Some organisations don't allow changes to the firewall, plus I've never tested how my clear engine cover behaves in the event of a fire.

That said, a number of owners have my clear engine cover so that they can quickly see if anything is wrong (coolant leak, for example) and also be able to access the engine within a minute (removal of 6 screws with a hex key to remove the clear cover).

Heat, vibration, and fatigue aren't concerns I have for track usage.

For those who track their car and want to more easily swap between the stock engine cover and the clear engine cover, I can modify the engine bay lighting kit's wiring harness to make the swap quicker. With some practice, it's possible to swap the covers in less than an hour.
