I haven’t had a front plate on any cars since 1977. I received two tickets in 49 years. I think the aesthetic benefit of no front plate outweighs the risk of getting cited.

I got pulled over in my Viper some years back right after Nebraska passed the law allowing drivers to pay extra and get a small decal for the front window. I was waiting to gloat when the two Highway Patrol Officers came walking up to me, since the license plate decal was a fairly new option, and when I politely asked , " What is the problem Officers, " the first Patrolman said, " Absolutely nothing is wrong sir, we just wanted to look at your car." I couldn't gloat at all and it was and likely will always be the best experience I had when those little red lights are flashing behind me!

Proof that there are still good police out there! Many years ago I got pulled over for an expired inspection in PA. Turns out the cop was a car guy and we talked for a while before he let me go with a warning. Now in TN, no inspection and I'm not convinced your car even needs plates here :lol:

In the European Onion cars must carry a front numberplate and in some countries the law states that the plates should even be fixed permanently, and that means using rivets through whatever the plates attach to. In the older days of metallic bumpers it was common to find several holes depending on how the guy mounting the plates cared or did not care about reusing previous holes. As you can guess things did not improve when cars started using plastic bumpers...

Which current model has doors that open to nothing?

Thanks for all the comments. :) Responding randomly and in no particular order....

--yes, the doors opening to nothing was a reference to the Taycan (so-called) "Turbo" GT with Weissach Package. Saw one at the dealer and couldn't believe you open the rear doors only see a weirdly done rear-seat delete rather than at least storage space...

--cars come off the truck and straight to the prep team with drills in hand. If someone doesn't physically intervene, the car gets drilled. You have to belabor the point ad nauseam with your sales guy, and even then it's 50/50 unless you go to the dealer yourself and throw your body on the hood as it comes off the truck.

--I have not come up with a front mount solution for the plates. There are too many curves and body variations in front, and the wind/air pressure is a whole different ball game up front. California has a vinyl plate beta program, which is the best legal option I know locally. The lawyer in me prevents me from making statements against interest here, but suffice to say --absent sting operations and big city parking revenue opportunities-- front plate enforcement is very low here. A very significant percent of cars have no front plates in CA. A guy could drive 3 different cars without front plates for over 30 years and never get a ticket.

You had all cylinders firing today, Tom! Made my day. I despise front plates on just about anything especially a sport car. Sadly, they’re required here in Tejas but I take that gamble on a couple of cars.

Glad it spoke to you! Just noticed your user name -- I was raised near Moffett Field and a good friend was an in-flight tech on the P3. Sometimes we'd sit in the golf course parking lot and watch the C5 land and take off up close and personal. What an absolute beast that thing is/was! Thank you for protecting us all. :)
