heat exchanger questions
The heat exchanger jackets on my exhaust are rusted and loose while the exhaust pipes seem fine. I'm thinking of just removing them with a cutoff wheel to eliminate the rattling. The heater valves are 53 years old and work about as well as you would think. Don't really need them here in SoCal. Is there a cap for the cooling fan outlets to the heat exchangers or do I need to fabricate something? If I can contain that cooling airflow, I would imagine that the engine cooling will be a bit more effective.

I don't know the answer to your question off-hand, but will poke around if no one else here knows. That said, I'd just caution you to be careful with your eyes when cutting the exhaust. Doing something very similar many years ago, I ended up at the eye doctor getting little bits of rust out of my eye with a tool that was essentially a medical Dremel. Quite hideous. I have have quite the collection of goggles and face shields now...papak wrote: Sun Feb 08, 2026 7:40 pm The heat exchanger jackets on my exhaust are rusted and loose while the exhaust pipes seem fine.
