Not sure if I got lucky or not, but my transmission was leaking between the cases and since it was out during a clutch job, I sent it to be resealed. That turned into a rebuild. The screen was half gone and took the pinion bearing with it. No other damage was discovered. Just delays waiting on parts from Germany. Fortunately, the bearing and screen are still available, unlike lots of other parts in the gearbox. Second gear? - Nope! Pinion bearing #27 016 311 220L? No! The Chinese crap from PCG may be, but when is Porsche going to go back to making quality parts over profits?
If you have a transmission with the oil pump, consider this a PSA. Buy the pump cover gasket, some gear lube and check your screen!

You got lucky the damage wasn’t worse that screen and pinion bearing failure could’ve taken out way more. It’s wild how a simple reseal snowballed into a rebuild, but at least the critical parts were still available. Definitely a wake-up call for anyone with an oil pump trans: check that screen before it shreds and ruins your day. Stick with OEM bearings if you can PCG’s stuff is hit or miss, and you don’t want to gamble with gearbox internals.
Once it’s back together, you should be golden. Just make sure to use the right gear lube and that pump cover gasket to avoid leaks. My rebuild was smooth until I skimped on synchros ended up chewing up second gear. Learned the hard way that cutting corners costs more in the long run.

I used factory synchronizers and pinion bearing. Fortunately we caught it early. It makes sense that the pinion bearing failed first as it located adjacent to the cooling loop return line.
Funny thing is the transmission was quiet. It did have 200k miles on the screen.
