I'm getting ready to put the rear "911 Turbo S" emblem back on my 992, and trying to figure out if the 911 and Turbo words are supposed to be parallel or if the 911is supposed to tilt up to the left. In its resting state right now, the 911 tilts up slightly as shown in the picture (see how green and blue lines are not parallel). Is that by design, or did I just happen to stick it to the cabinet like that and the plastic remembered that shape?
Bonus question for Turbo S owners: Can you fit a credit card straight up and down between O and the S (where red line is)?
Ultimately, I'll make a template and confirm it on a factory car, but trying to get it as close as possible before checking against another car....
Thanks!

Re the credit card line up - I'll check mine tomorrow or maybe later tonight if I get back to the garage.
By the way, they have the correct, factory supplied templates for all (or most later models, anyway) of the Porsche emblems at our dealership. Yours probably does too and I imagine they would let you borrow what you need.

Thank you! I also see that Suncoast Porsche sells them online (for a pretty hefty fee). As is my way, my motivation is twofold however. I want to put my emblem back on, for sure, but I'm also taking the opportunity to model a 3D-printable template, so that an accurate template is only a free download away for everyone. If it works out as hoped, I will likely do other popular models as well. Most PPF guys trace out their own stencil before removing the emblem, then use that to reinstall. I have access to those, but they are only as good as the guy tracing them out....
When you look at yours, let me know about whether the 911 is parallel or tilted too, if you would. Ultimately, I'll line up my template on an unmolested new car, but I don't want to make the journey to the closest car before I have a template that I think to be mighty close -- just trying to minimize trips to iterate the template.

I'll look at the 911 tilt on mine and take a pic too.
By the way, you probably already know this but I've seen horror photos of reattached Porsche emblems (from supposedly professional PPF installers) using too thick dbl-sided tape. IE: the foam 3m with the red liner - maybe the same as you use for your lic plate mounts, for which it's perfect. Great stuff but too thick for emblems.
And new factory emblems from Porsche with the paper thin adhesive attached are priced in the stratosphere. (A simple GT4 emblem set - just 3 characters - is in the $350 ballpark I believe.) A friend who does PPF shared what he uses with me. (At the time he said very few were aware of it.) Please note that I have not tried it myself but it looks like the ticket and he swears by it. (It may be what Porsche and other manufactures are using.) It's also from 3M. It's not cheap.

Wow, I love that stuff!! Thank you so much for that tip. I'll order it tonight. For my license plate mounts, I do use the red-backed 'super strength" 3M molding tape, and as you say it is over 1mm thick -- so way too thick for these emblems. (As an aside, 3M recently changed that tape. It's now black and gummier than before.) I actually learned about that molding tape from the guy you did ppf on my 991. He used it on the emblems, and it was clearly too thick to look right. It's fantastic stuff, and I'd argue perfect for the license plate mounts, but totally wrong for emblems. I had previously made a study of it, and decided on 3M 5915, which is very thin and stretchy, so when you stretch it, it gets thinner still. It looks very (very) close to what's on the emblems from the factory, but takes forever to cut and fit. This press in place stuff looks like an even better solution -- THANK YOU!

Regarding the tilt to the "911" portion of the emblem, my answer would be no. I've included a pic but it's difficult to tell for sure when the emblem set is mounted on the car due to a lack of an easy, straight angle reference point. The horizontal panel lip an inch or so below the emblem is a smooth curl, plus that same rear bodywork panel where the emblem goes also curls forward at the sides into the rear quarters. (Smoothly curving bodywork without hard lines is what Porsche design is largely about as I see it.) Anyway, it creates a bit of doubt, so there's some second-guessing on my part.
It isn't easy to get a good picture either, especially inside the garage. A cloudy flat-light day might be better in that regard. However, I've attached a pic. I will add that the eye test is better for me than the camera which distorts and adjusts and lies, doing its best to deliver what the camera's AI tells it to. Looking at the car with my own eyes supports my notion that the "911" part is straight.
As for your bonus question, yes I can, but barely. (I used a thin, clear plastic ruler.) Pic of that also attached.

That's super helpful and very much appreciated. (Also makes me second guess not getting Carmine for the hundredth time....) Was that emblem removed and reinstalled for PPF? Either way, between that and my own pre-ppf-measurements, I should be able to get my template within a mm here and there. I'll then take it down to a dealer with a turbo s and line it up for the final tweaks. Thanks again, you are a great resource here on Carpokes!!

Thanks for the kind words Tom. No, I didn't PPF the entire car, so none of my emblems were removed - they are exactly as they came from the factory. But I was curious as to how they might be replaced, especially after seeing some horror photos of reattached emblems at that other Porsche forum and elsewhere. That led me to find out about the templates the dealership uses and also to my PPF guy and what product he uses when reattaching emblems. That was a year ago and apparently few knew about the 3M product at that time, including body shops, dealers, PPF guys, etc.
For me, I just do track pkg type PPFs as that gets the most vulnerable areas covered and protected, at least as long as the front of the car is moving forward...

One other caveat regarding a total car PPF and emblems is to never let an installer try to convince you that they can cut around emblems. Pics and examples I've seen are many times worse than reinstalling badges over PPF with overly thick dbl-stick tape. At least you can remove the emblems and the overly thick tape.
This is nice..............
