I am excited to get out into the canyons and hills of California and would love advice on favorite drives members have taken.

For me, I love Grizzly Peak in the East Bay and highway 1 through Big Sur is a classic. But want to explore more.

I live in the SF Bay Area and have all the world class sports car driving roads of the California coast and mountains nearby , but by far my favorite driving road is Hwy 89 from Truckee north through Sierraville onward to Gold Lake , Quincy or Nakoma ...fantastic mountain/forest/ broad fields scenery ( like combo of California Gold Country and Colorado) , NO traffic because " it goes nowhere " in either direction and it's FAR/ hours and hours from populated areas ...I can drive it all the time because I have a place at Tahoe . It's fast with lots of long sweeping turns and no cliffs / drop offs / walls / blind turns with relaxing far ahead visibility and fantastic lighting as it's a north south road so no sun in eyes 👍👍👍
My favorite stop used to be a tiny road house named the Fork and Horn
in Sierraville with a local woman owner chef who made the best Coconut Cream and other pies ANYWHERE , but they went under due to the pandemic and now it's a generic diner run by someone rlse 🙁🙁

She even custom made the pies to my spec :
a 14 inch (vs her usual 9 inch ) pie with a special request extra thick crumbly shortbread crust with 1/3 usual sugar coconut filling all the way to rim vs half way , then I added her no sugar added Chantilly cream and toasted coconut flakes atop that after slicing ..my pie was about 6 inches tall when served , lol ! I still have an extra one of those pies in freezer that my wife and I share a bit of on special occasions . Most amazing thing was she charged $30 each ..woulda been $75-100 if a Bay Area baker made something that huge
😋

Route 9 Saratoga and eventually to Santa Cruz. I lived in Saratoga in the 70's was a student, could not afford a Porsche but had a Triumph TR6 which I drove on that road frequently.
