I was not aware that this was no longer a working option on my new 992 !! I think it may actually have drained my battery instead of keeping it charged !?? Anyway - the dealer informed me of this change - so today I will give your instructions below a try.... wish me luck !
thanks Mel
I think someone at your your dealership may have given you incorrect info. From page 262 of my Owner's Manual regarding the passenger side footwell 12v socket: "The 12-volt plug socket and the connected electrical accessories function even if the ignition is switched off or the vehicle key is removed."

I use my pass side footwell port for my CTEK Lithium battery maintainer at all times when the car is not being driven. (2022 992 Turbo S)

More than likely the problem is with the charger Porsche is selling. They don't work consistently (or at all) and it's been reported by customers and dealers everywhere. Dealers who know will discourage customers from buying them. There are much better options.

See a newer post on this issue and more in-depth responses at the Carpokes thread here:

https://www.carpokes.com/viewtopic.php? ... hilit=ctek

Also, I would strongly recommend not using a regular SLA or AGM charger on a Lithium battery for anything more than brief periods of time.

Thanks for the reminder. The battery is made in South Korea.

Here is the other (driver's) side. I noticed wiring going into the top of the front struts. I guess this for the suspension? It sends a signal to stiffen the fronts?

This is a change from the 2020 Carrera. I remember going away for a month and attaching an old-style trickle charger to the battery. It worked well.

Helpful 992 Notes from Suncoast:

https://www.suncoastparts.com/product/CHARGER2.html

992 - For 2020 or newer 911 models, you must purchase the additional maintainer clamps and charge at the battery directly.

@P_Coastal

I think Suncoast Parts might have it wrong for 992's and maybe other models too. Mine works just fine (and has been for a year now) using the footwell access plug. It also has performed the same for others I know who use that method. Porsche svc dept here has verified and recommended same setup as I use to several 992 customers who have asked about Lithium battery maintenance.

The inside power port also works fine for battery maint on our 2019 Cayenne Turbo too which has a Lithium battery. The ports remain hot per the Owner's Manual for both the 992 and the Cayenne.

The only downside I see is that if you store the vehicle outside and/or in a less than safe area, it might not be wise to have the window down that 1/4" or so to allow the cord to pass through. I would never raise the window all the way up on any kind of cord, power or otherwise.

@blueline, I am not disputing your experience, or anyone else’s. The notes from Suncoast seem to align with Tom’s experience so it is just a data point, not definitive.

I know and agree that for unknown reasons it may not work for some. But that still seems illogical to me.

I knew Tom had issues but I wasn't sure of specifics except for a failed battery (IIRC) due to a battery drain issue when his PPF was being installed because the fob was left too close to the car. However, others have mentioned that proximity should have no bearing on battery drain.

When it comes to batteries and electronics, there are plenty of grey areas.

Another data point for me would be my '21 718 GT4. Took delivery new Nov 2020 and I have used a regular SLA/AGM maintainer (Granite Digital) for the car's AGM battery since new, again using the footwell 12v port. I have never had it go into any kind of sleep mode. The GT4 is not out often during winter (MPSC2 tires, etc), so it does sit for longer periods of time but I've never experienced what Suncoast is saying about 718s either.

In my case, the "battery low" light did not go off after a week of driving.
I went to the dealer, and they tested the battery. The battery itself was holding a charge well and performing properly, but the aforementioned BMS (battery management system) that resides inside the Lithium battery was malfunctioning. This can't be fixed, so they replaced the battery under warranty.
Since then, I've bought a NoCo battery booster pack in case this every happens again. As well as the Porsche Pro charger.

Also, have you used the NOCO battery booster and what type do you have?

Hey all! Here's my story and hope it helps. I had this exact thing happen 3 times after taking delivery of my 992 Turbo S in Dec 2021 (2022 model).

It happened 3 times over the next 4 months. Luckily I have a great service department and dealer, and each time they came out and I would take it in. First 2 times, it was verified the battery was good and holding a charge. The 3rd time, they took a different path. Each time it went dead the car alarm would go off for about 45 sec prior and the car was dead. To explain, I had a security camera with audio on it, once I was right there when it happened, so I knew this.

So the 3rd time, the service department poured over the car. It was in the shop actually for 3 weeks (it was winter so ok!) because we wanted to find this thing! Finally they hooked it up to all sorts of electronic monitoring equipment, and even got the engineers in Germany involved.

Here is what they found...... it was the faulty alarm module under the front seat that was to blame. It was not letting the car go into standby and the module itself has an intermittent pulse, but was draining about 50x the norm at that 3 minute interval. Then it would hit a random spike and drain the battery all at once. If its happening, have them check the alarm module.

Since, I've had no problems at all. Hope that helps somebody!
