Hi Folks, I'm new here and just wanted to say hi and post a little project I'm kicking around.

I just bought my first 944 - a black on black 1990 S2. I'm geeked AF. I don't even have it yet (its on the way from Colorado to VA) and I'm already giddy.

In the meantime I wanted to make a set of wheel cribs for oil changes and simple maintenance convenience. I've been playing around with a few designs and wanted to share the latest here. Its a two piece sheet metal design that nests and has a carrying handle cutout. Cost is around $50 per wheel ($200 a set roughly).

Looks like a nice compact solution. In my pre-lift days, I would lift one side of the car under the diamond indent on the side, then put ramps in the rear (pointing in opposite directions) and jack stands under the front rails. Your little stackable wheel caddies would be way less bulky to store. Do you have a way to cut the metal like that, and the mechanical engineering chops to know they're safe?

I suspect that horse is from the porsche crest? Standing alone like that it has a Ferrari feel, although on close inspection the Ferrari horse is standing up more -- almost like a dog begging for food. Unless you're planning to sell them, maybe go 'inside baseball' with the P triangle logo....

Yup, I'm a mech E. As far as cutting vendors there are plenty of folks like sendcutsend that can do quick turn laser or waterjet cutting for projects like these.
