Death of a hose

Right when my 944 was half-apart on the lift for some new front suspension rubber, my E36 M3 decides to develop an unstable idle and stalling when warm.

I finally got the Porsche buttoned back together and the M3 onto the lift. Re-gapped the plugs (they were 0.25" when they should have been 0.30"), to no avail.

Got out the smoke machine. Found this gaping hole in the elbow that goes from the cylinder head to the AOS:

Blimey. That's not your normal crack.

Picture taken with a borescope, because, you know, it has to be in a place that's nearly impossible to get to.... :?

About 3 hours to get the intake stripped off for access. (OK, 45 minutes of that was hunting for a screw that I dropped.)

Something about BMW motors from that era that just look great! Sorry about the hose but think of all the ‘while you’re in there’ parts you can refresh :)

Yeah, it's a pity they jumped on the plastic covers bandwagon shortly after that....
