Rear Seat Delete

Been thinking about the Rear Seat Delete Option from the 968 cars, Some people say it’s a bolt in option with minimal modifications, Others say just build your own.. The rear seats in the 944 ARE basically useless if you’re over 5ft tall, So I’m wondering who actually DID remove the rear seats and what they encountered…

I removed my 951 rear seat when I replaced my carpet and sound deadening using the appbiz rs delete carpet kit. (Now sold by JWest Engineering).
If you don’t plan on doing a full carpet replacement, it wouldn’t be that hard to cut your own pieces for that area.
I put some hefty speaker boxes where the seats were and they sound way better than the rear oem speakers. I’ve seen other pics of diy storage cubbies as well.
Worked out well - only downside is that the gearbox noise is a little more noticeable.

Thanks for the QUICK reply, I’ve seen some REALLY good pictures and I believe SOMEONE is still producing the actual product from the 968, I can’t find the source anywhere and the ones that come up on Marketplace and EBay are WAY overpriced for a used piece of equipment…. But I plan on doing it this Summer…. Grassroots Racing has a great starting point to put me on the right path….

I picked up a Deutsche 9 rear seat delete shell many years ago and still like it a lot. Installation is about as easy as it gets -- just pull out the rear seats and set the shell in place. That’s it. It’s a very simple shell and weighs next to nothing. I’d bet it’s lighter than carpeting.
Deutsche 9 now appears to be Sportwagen-Zuerich, but they still show the rear seat delete on their website:
http://www.sportwagen-zuerich.ch/concre ... 1-and-968/
Initially, I just placed the shell over the bare metal after removing the seats, and the fit/look was excellent. What surprised me was how much additional driveline and transaxle noise entered the cabin afterward. A lot. The rear seat area seems to act like a bit of an amplifier.
I think whalenlg benefits from the large rear speakers in comparison — they probably block some of the sound and disrupt the “amplifier” effect. Mine was loud enough that I ended up adding stick-on Dynamat material on the pan metal, which helped quite a bit, though it’s still noticeably louder than a stock 944.
At this point, the cabin noise is somewhere between a Lexus and a UPS truck.
I could probably double down on the Dynamat and get it closer to stock quietness, but honestly it’s now just loud enough to feel cool and mechanical, while still quiet enough not to drive me nuts.

Hey Tom, Is that the same as the 968 Club Sport Rear Seat Delete?? I looked at that and it looks like it’s just the carpet replacement…. I’m looking for something to fill up the space where the rear seat was and possibly gain some sort of storage area…. Maybe you can post a picture of exactly what you have….

I also laid down dynamat - there's a writeup for that project:

I made my own.
Very easy to remove rear folding portion and seat belts. I left the bottoms in case I want to reverse it, and I didn't want any extra road noise.
As for what I encountered: lots of birdseed. Last owner had rodents and this was their winter home.
If I had to do it again, I'd add the cross bar that the Porsche OEM one has to keep stuff from sliding forward.

VERY NICE clean look!!!! I’m looking to remove the lower seat cushions and build some sort of storage compartments just like the Club Sport…. The seats are weathered up pretty bad and I don’t plan on going back and having them replaced anytime soon…

I agree with Trouble, that is a really clean looking piece, and I like the cutout for a fire extinguisher...smart addition!
Love the seats as well!
