In my process of refreshing all the transmission components in my car, I stumbled across the Only944 short shifter. While I want to keep the stock throw, I do like how crisp the new kit looks. I was thinking if enough other people have the same dilemma I have, maybe we could have Only944 start selling a stock throw shifter kit. Let me know if you guys are interested, if enough of us are I’ll send an email to Kyle

I have an old welt meister and on the longer setting it is pretty much exactly like stock. Might want to look for a used one of those.

FYI I recently replaced my shifter with his short throw and all the linkage. Zero regrets!

How much did it reduce the throw in your car? Since I don’t take my car to the track I’m not worried about fast shifting or anything like that, but I worry about mis-shifting more with a short throw

I have the Only944 short throw shifter kit and I wouldnt say it makes the throw that much shorter. Ive driven other cars with an extremely short throw and its no where near that.

I think overall it was a nice upgrade and what I noticed right away was an improved feel of the shifter and much less play in the shifter. I replaced both the shifter shaft in the cabin and installed the short throw linkage on top of the trans. The two definitely go together. I recommend that Loctite be used on the 10mm bolt that connects the shifter rod shaft coming out of the trans to the short throw linkage.

My old linkage was completely SHOT with several inches of play in all diirections while in gear. So I can't say how much it reduced the throw, but I will tell you it's night and day difference.
The video in the post above shows all you need. Just do it and never look back

Okay, you guys have convinced me to get the short shifter. Can anyone tell me if the shift linkage rod has made any improvements as well? I might as well do that while I’m in there, but if it doesn’t change the feel at all I’ll leave it.

You can redo the shifter rod itself yourself with parts from McMaster Carr (some washers, a few roller bearings and a bolt). There is some thread(s) on rennlist about it, which is what I did. I think it works just as well as the only944 replacement, but if you dont want to mess around with that, just go with the only944 option.

Sounds good, I just know it’s a pain to get to so I was curious if it’s a worthwhile replacement
