My new 944 ... and it's issues

I just took delivery of this beautiful beast yesterday. From 20ft, it is quite lovely.

Then we look a little closer at the "new paint job" I'm not surprised, I was just hoping for better. Most of the trim/seals are sprayed to some degree, but they are mostly in rough shape anyways and will get replaced.

Now the REAL fun! It has an aftermarket security system. After some research I believe it is a Voxx. Due to this wonderful security system it took almost 2 hours to get it started when it was delivered. Time to find the brains and get this system gone! Any advice as to where I may find the controller for it?

More wiring fun! What did this used to plug into??

Expert repair ...

Mystery relay

Another one ... and the air horn pump
Image

Going to need a boot/grommet here sooner than later
Image

Could not get the hatch to open. Then found this in the back seat
Image

While I'm at it, what do these 2 buttons do to the left of the fan speed?

This is just what I found within an hour of having it in the shop. Also discovered the wipers, power windows and mirrors don't work. I only got as far as checking fuses for electrical issues. The sunroof works at least! Brakes are questionable. something is loose in the steering linkage, front left bumper shock is compressed a bit and the shifter is about as tight as a hot dog in a hallway.
I knew what I was buying (mostly) and I'm not scared of fixing anything. The German engineering learning curve begins! I may need some advice along the way from you fine enthusiasts.

It’s been a while but my aftermarket alarm system was connected next to the ECU. I think most are. In other words, under the passenger seat footwell. You’ll probably find a rats nest of wires from the look of things.

I'm always amused to see people paint over trim like that. As you say, replacing most of that is probably a good idea anyway. That yellow wire in the fuse box might very well lead you to the aftermarket alarm. Mine was wired to that same spot, but from below where the wires come out. That was fun to remove (after taking the seat and steering wheel out to make room to get on my back with a soldering iron --fun times...). In my case, the alarm box was zip tied to something in the driver's footwell wall, behind the carpet. What year is the car, and what color are the wires in the mystery connector? If it's factory, we may be able to find it on the schematic.
I'm not familiar enough with the n/a wiring so know if it's factory or not, but it's not present on my turbo. Buttons next to the fan are air recirc and defrost. Assuming they work, you can refresh the graphics with help from @j.samper -- see his kit in the link below...

Welcome aboard -- looking forward to watching the progress on this car. :)

Thanks for the replies! It's an 86. Passenger footwell is where I figured the search would start. I'll be shocked if it isn't a wiring mess. That's kind of my specialty though. It will be all tidy soon.
That mystery plug leaves the fuse/relay box heading toward the passenger side. Its pretty long and was coiled up to the right of the fuse box. May not have time to dive in tonight, but this weekend will be all about the 944.
I'll definitely be looking at the link you shared. I was hoping someone sold something like that. As I work on I'll be sure to post updates. Looks like my timing and water pumps parts from pelican won't be here til Monday, unfortunately. I want to get that done before even starting it again. I've had the pleasure of a broken belt on an interference engine before. No thanks!

I'm not too good with colors, but I'll get a better pic of that connector and report back.

That white connector near the fuse box goes to the hood - light and probably spray nozzle heaters.

I'll be darned -- I DO have that connector and that's exactly what it is. It's tucked under the bracing on the underside of the hood, so I never knew it was there. Learn something new everyday, great post.

Thanks! One mystery solved :)

This thing is more of an electrical basketcase than I had hoped. That's a story for later. While pulling security wires I noticed the battery cables... it's bare copper all over. SHOCKING that didn't cause a fire.

I see pelican sells them. Pretty sure I can make a quality set for a lot less. What do you guys and gals do?

Saw the same conditions when I got my 951 in 2020. Replaced with original Porsche then and added a heat sheath over them. There may be other options now.
