Great read! Even though I am not the target audience for those levels of cars, they really have never interested me since the early 2000’s. It may track with the increase of social media and C&C Hard Parker’s, where it appears to me as the new “keeping up with the Jones” . Maybe James May was right years ago when he detested the track times being published in car brochures. Or maybe I’m getting old…

Interesting, but true, During the apocalypse, I ordered a new guitar amp build. And it had to fit in the front trunk.

The 997and 991RS are typical 911s (I do not have LWBs in the 991 so back is accessible). Practical for two people to weekend.
My 992 is another matter. No front trunk at all. LWBs do not fold so rear deck inaccessible. I used my passenger seat for bags in Europe so solo driving. Basically a track car with no other purpose. Great track car though.

That was a great article! I suppose it comes down to how you define fun when you interact with your car..pride of ownership, pride of restoring an older car to its prime, modifying a car to exceed its original performance envelope, top speed, highest performance specs, driving experience based on driver interaction/control, lowest lap times somewhere ....everyone is different. Usability generally seems to get lost in those discussions when talking about high performance cars, but not totally lost in the spectrum of what Porsche offers.

Absolutely, back into 2020, I was trying to buy the Alfa 4C. Zero luggage space. Ended up ordering a 718 spyder instead. Glad, yes. But I still lust over the 4c.

The issue of usability for me is down to the use case. I would never have the 992RS as a daily driver or even as a second car. Apart from the issues noted above the lithium battery needs to be kept charged and cannot be charged through a cigarette lighter socket,only directly. This involves carefully pulling off the two large panels that cover the former front trunk space to reach the battery.
Finally you have to be careful with the underside which has a whole series of vanes which are easy to scrape or damage.
Definitely not for that weekend away unless to the track:)
