Camshafts

I’m currently at the tail end of a moderate project that got substantially bigger due to the discovery of a damaged water passage in my head. As a consequence, after I sourced a new head, I started looking into camshafts because, why not? Now I’m kind of obsessed with them. I even made a few camshaft purchases before realizing what I was doing, partially due to fear of missing out due to a tight schedule for my build.
Anyway, who among you are using an aftermarket camshaft and which one are you using? What are the specs of the rest of your motor and how do you like it?

Cams seem to be rare amongst the 944 crowd.
I ran a web in my solid lifter 3.0L. Seems most that have tried them removed them.
I will probably run the web again in one of my engines.

I ran a cam spec'd by Scott Gomes and another by Vitesse. They added power, but the Gomes cam worn down a lobe in short order and I didn't like what they did to drivability. Maybe they were both too aggressive I don't know. I'd call them lopey, but 4 cylinders don't lope really, it's more of a limp.

Do you still have the Scott Gomes cam?
If so I wonder if MM recommended cam lifter repair guys could fix it?

A few years back I was at Laguna Seca with my hood open and to my surprise Jon Milledge stopped to admire my car. He was very complimentary, asked what cam I had in the car, and said he had a cam that worked quite well with the turbo’s. Like a dumb ass, I asked if it was smog legal. Jon got a blank look on his face and left. I realized how dumb a question that was and I am kicking myself to this day, as I dont think his cams are available any longer. The only reason I asked that question was I was in the middle of a long battle with the CA smog nazis to get my car registered and was in a sour mood. If only I had responded…I’ll take one please!
