Hi guys,
I’m chasing a rough start up tick over and came across this sensor and was hoping you could help with a couple of questions I have:-
1, what is it for?
2, how do I test it?
3, should there only be 1 wire attached to it?

It's the temp sensor for the gauge in the dash, so not something that would affect how the motor runs. If the coolant temp gauge in the dash is working, the sensor is ok. If you need to test that sensor, remove the wire and use a multimeter and measure how many ohms there are between that post and ground. It's an NTC sensor so resistance goes down as heat goes up. At 40c, the spec is 287.4 ohms. Once up to operating temps (105c) the spec is 33.6 ohms. Any numbers in that general area mean the sensor is working. Early cars only used 1 wire; later cars had a second wire to add the red warning light when overheated. What year is your car?

Sounds like the sensor isn't your problem if the gauge works.
