I've made the journey from TN to the Dawsonville area a number of times to and from AMP (Atlanta M'sports Park) via the back roads. There are lots of great winding roads through that area which is probably near where you like to ride.996C438 wrote: ↑Sat Feb 03, 2024 3:31 am ^^^ I am fortunate , living in north Georgia I am surrounded by great mountain roads . I have a 55 mile loop through the mountains that is my driving favorite . Lots of switch backs and elevation changes with fantastic views . I drive it often . I call it road therapy .

I also have a vehicle with an extended sump and there is ongoing discussion on where to set the oil level. The two prevailing trains of though are to set it to the full line, same as before. The other is to set it close to the low line as this will reduce the frothing of the oil from the crank and rods hitting the oil level. I don’t actually know what is right however I do tend to run the oil on the low side as it seems to reduce the load on the breather system.
Did Jake give any advice on what to do with the oil level?

^^^ Jake recommends to run 11 quarts with the 2 quart extension . I think if you are running the OEM AOS you should not go more than 11 quarts . That is my opinion . That should bring the oil level to halfway on the dash gauge or dip stick .
Now if you are running the UAOS you can increase your oil level . Supposedly the diaphragm because of where it's mounted AND it being much better quality than OEM can take higher oil levels . I do have the UAOS but for street use I will stay at 11 quarts .

Another thing I forgot to mention . This extended sump also included the X51 style internal baffles that LN Engineering makes out of stainless steel . On a 996 when using that style of baffle you also have to change the swirl pots to the 997 version . And lastly the oil pickup is extended the same thickness as the sump extension so it sits where it's supposed to . I wanted to clarify in case anyone is thinking going this route and isn't knowledgeable on the subject . If you purchase new most kits contain everything needed .
Finished the job yesterday by installing the LN Engineering/ Bilt Racing sump skid plate . It is made of stainless steel and very heavy duty . I feel better knowing the sump is protected from speed bumps or anything similar .

Nice - no worries now that's for sure - heavy duty is an understatement. Good ole LN Engineering. (I got it right! )

Fun fact : Charles Navarro the owner of LN Engineering hit a coyote carcass in the road at 70mph . When the sump skid plate hit the coyote he said it lifted the rear of the car up in the air . The skid plate was covered in fur/guts/blood but sustained zero damage . Good enough for me
