We are going to need replacement shocks all round on a standard 88 2.5 8V 944

I had an 84 car before which I fitted standard OEM to. It made a noticeable improvement and I was happy with them at the time.

Later I had an 88 Turbo with M030 sports suspension, so Koni sport adjustables. A shock I also like although not the quickest to adjust on the rear.

Will these fit on a standard 944 without issue given the springs will be a bit longer. Guessing there will be enough spare extension in the shock tubes?

My lad may want to go a bit lower on ride height in the near future anyway.

Or are there other proven options to consider for a sportier ride without going too far.

M030 suspension on a Turbo/S2/968 is totally different, it's a sealed height adjustable coil over.

NA/S2/968 87+ and Turbos 86+ are sealed struts, so you have to hack them for a Koni, or weld collars on to make them a cartridge strut like the 82-86 NA cars, so you can run a Bilstein insert shock.

Not looking to stray too far from original so any suggestions for direct fit but a bit improved on oem for fast road use?

Koni makes an insert for the OEM Boge front struts. I did this conversion last year along with replacing the rear shocks with Koni adjustables on my 86 944 turbo. I set them (struts and shocks) to a mid point adjustment and they ride and handle well on the street. I would not necessarily discount the Koni’s. I did not look at Bilsteins, though as I think they were more expensive due to replacing the whole strut. I did not consider the OEM Boge.

So it looks like the only option is to modify the front struts to take an insert. Replacement struts look difficult to find and expensive.

Seen some instructions to mod them for Koni which appears to drill the bottom, empty, cut the top cap off then slide the koni insert in and bolt in the bottom.

Not yet seen instructions for a bilstien but don't they need a new screw top cap welding on?
