My 2015 Cayman is without a backup camera , would love to find an acceptable solution that is not unsightly or require massive rewire . Anyone out there who has found a solution ? If so what was it ?

My 2014 Cayman would also appreciate having a backup camera. My dealer pointed me to the auto sound shop across the street -- which promptly went out of business.

Not a solution to your request but you can take consolation in the fact that the current OEM back up camera in the 911 is really horrible !!!!

My wifes Lexus camera and display is way, way better.

The resolution, alignment and grid makes backing and parking easy peasy.

I also installed a large screen apple carplay (about $120 on Amazon) with back up camera in my 2008 BMW and that is way better than the Porsche system.

I replaced the stock head unit in my 2010 Boxster 987.2 with a Pioneer W-DMH 4660NEX stereo. It has a 7 1/2" (diagonal) screen, AM/FM/Sirius/GPS/Bluetooth, etc., and both a backup and a forward camera. It fits perfectly in the double DIN space. I recommend it.

I have battery-powered cameras front and rear on my 987.2 Cayman. Each camera uses a AA battery. No wiring!

Better yet, the rear camera actually fits in the Cayman recess!

All of the suggestions so far seem to involve replacing the car's central display, or adding one.
Is there a decent solution that can connect to the factory display for backup imagery and guide lines?

A company named Isudar (isudar.com) makes a board that fits in the center console electronics and adds connectivity for 2 cameras and adds Apple Carplay and Android Audio, it's 239.45 Euros. I have one but have only recently purchased my car and haven't had a chance to install it yet. As an electronic engineer I feel comfortable doing this myself, but you might want to have someone else do it. There are a number of YouTube videos showing this (I plan to also replace the disk drive in the center console with an SSD at the same time as a preventative measure). I'm going to have a local car stereo shop run the cable and install the rear camera as there are lots of trim removal required and I'd rather have a pro do that.

BUT, once installed, you have to tell the computer in the center console that it has a backup camera to work, this requires whats called a PIWIS computer-interface. You'll need to have a dealer or a shop with one program it. If you feel adventurous, you can purchase a clone of the PIWIS for $470 plus the cost of a used portable computer; I highly recommend a guy called Marc Saeran, ([email protected]) for this. The PIWIS is a full diagnostic tool for the Porsche. The repair/diagnostics part of the PIWIS is in English but the factory configuration part that you will need is in German, so you use Google Translate to take a picture of the screen in German to translate. Again, there are YouTube video's about this. Interesting note, Porsche leases PIWIS to its dealers and authorized repair shops for $18,000 ... for the first year! - and $12,000 per year after that (PART OF THE "Porsche Tax") so $470 is a bargain.

Note on the PIWIS clone videos, many use VMworks or Hyper-V or VM VirtualBox to create a dedicated boot environment for this, or you can dedicate the portable for just this.
