987S Suspension Refresh

Got the QuickJack assembled and tested. So great. Why did I wait so long to get this? Anyway, I still need to find the right place to position the car before lifting in order to maximize access all the way around. At this point nothing more will happen for a while as holiday stuff comes first.

I position mine about 2" in front of the rear tires. And the "screw-in" pucks are a must so that you don't crush the corner of the rear "undershield".

Wow, that is a long web address! I'm assuming the Boxster takes the same ones as the 911, but you'd better double check. they are a must have!

Thanks, Tim. No problem if it doesn't show correctly. I just want to stress that those pucks that twist into the car are a nice "must-have". When I first bought mine they were about $35 and I thought...do I really need these??? Yes! Thought the same thing about the wheel hangers...Yes, yes, and Yes!!!

Thanks! I’ll check them out. I already have a pretty large collection of pucks from previous vehicles, so maybe I’ve already got one that works…

Finally made a little bit of progress!

Dropped the car and moved it around a bit to maximize working area when the QJ is at full height. I may spend a bit more time organizing the garage, though most stuff along the walls is easily movable so I can have working space where I need it.

Removed the wheels, cleaned both sets, and stored them out of the way. Probably due for a new set of AX rubber as the rears are down to the wear bars. Also the left rear has some odd wear patterns; hopefully any minor suspension issues will be resolved after this project is complete.

So far the only liquid on the floor has been water. While it is easy to wipe the tops clean, getting in between and/or under would require removing the tiles, which would not be easy. Whenever there is a chance of oil or something else escaping containment, I lay cardboard under my work area to contain the mess. Granted, I would do that anyway with an old car like this all all sorts of crud will get dislodged when working on the underside.

I’ve had them down for a couple of years and they are holding up fine. The only issue I had was with using jack stands. The tile instructions say don’t use them, and they mean it! Concentrating a lot of weight onto a small area- like the foot of a jack stand- will damage them. Yet more justification for the QuickJack, as it seems to spread out the weight sufficiently such that it’s not causing any problems.

Shiny new parts! This is taking forever! I can only hope that the other corners will go faster. It seems that one never has all the necessary tools or parts on hand.

Still a few more things to do before I finish up the right front.
