Oh , 911s are super popular here also, it is just a case that anymore it is easier to get the Caysters! I have admit while Instructing with NASA or PCA I usually enjoy jumping in a Cayman over a 911 as they are just more tossable. Funny, after years of driving Miatas and Vipers , the Cayman reminds me of a Miata that almost is as quick as an older Viper! So, I get the best of both worlds!

I rented a Miata when they first came out and drove it from Los Angeles to San Diego. It was a blast to drive.WillyDaP wrote: ↑Mon Dec 25, 2023 11:47 am Oh , 911s are super popular here also, it is just a case that anymore it is easier to get the Caysters! The Cayenne is Porsche's second most popular produced vehicle. There are a lot of base Cayenne's for sale. They have just had a model change, so I would think that there are quite a few people who have gone to the new 2024 model. I recently decided to look for a pre-owned S. While there were many Base models for sale, once I narrowed it down to 2021-2022 S', Turbos, and GTS', there were very few. I finally decided to go the S route. Turbos were more than I was willing to spend and the GTS' are the same price as a turbo. Once I removed black from the interior color of my search, the number of Cayenne S' were very limited. Finally found one that was as close to what I wanted....color, mileage, and most options I wanted but not all.

mafpolo is so right as I had the same issue trying to find a Macan S used. Like him I did not want Black and there were plenty of Base models, though more S models than with Cayennes. My wife preferred a Cayenne, but we did not want the GTS or Turbo price and every S that popped up seemed to be Black. I am no longer young enough I want to babysit a Black car, SUV, or truck of any kind, hence my choice of a White Macan S and a Silver Laramie Ram W1500 Crewcab, ha!
Cayennes are just way more popular , it appears, in the Midwest than BMWs, Mercs, Rovers, Acuras, etc. but then they are better looking so why is there any surprise, ha?

The biggest fear on V8 Cayennes is the potential for bore scoring . Same for the 986/987/996/997 . The alusil/lokasil cylinder coatings when they fail are big $$$ to repair . And there are enough failures out there that it is a valid concern . On the flip side there are plenty that do not suffer the failure . Risk tolerance is an individual factor that only you can decide .
Not sure when Porsche converted over to Sumebore ( 2020 ? ) but it is a far superior coating , some say even better than nikasil . And plenty of OEM's have had bore score issues . Many Cayenne owners specifically purchase the VR6 versions as they have cast iron blocks . It's all about choices . I have considered a used Cayenne purchase but haven't pulled the trigger yet .

We have been considering a 2016-18 base Cayenne to replace our aged Jeep and my ‘15 528 BMW. Seems like average mileage is in the 70-80k range. I’ve read about the transfer case issues but other than that, they seem like they are durable vehicles. As my BMWs age, the cost of maintenance is definitely increasing, despite doing a lot of the work myself. I don’t want to go from bad to worse but it seems a 70k mile Cayenne has a lot of good life left in it.
I think there are a lot of factors as previously mentioned. However, if you buy a premium vehicle and a few years later there are new features / styling cues that yours doesn't have *and price isn't a factor* then you are likely to move on from your 3 year old Cayenne. I think that there are more price-insensitive buyers of Cayennes than there are for other models of comparable SUVs.

When it comes to Cayennes I am of the "drive it into the ground" fans. I have had two new Cayennes..a 2008 S (V8 ) and my current 2022 V8 Cayenne GTS.
I eventually sold the older car to a neighbour with 325,000km on it and it is now over 350,000. No bore scoring, original transmission and engine. No rust. It was offroaded, did extensive towing, Canadian winters, Arizona deserts, you name it.
Only issues were camshaft lifters ( an expensive job), A/c compressor and a small part of the muffler to be replaced. of course it did not have the features of a new Cayenne but it was bought to work and it did the Job admirably. I have 31,000km on the current cars and it has been 100% trouble free:
