944 late dash screw cover

Here is an STL file for the blank plates that cover the screws on the late-944 dash -- part # 944.552.450.00. When printed in black ABS/ASA on a textured PEI plate, they are hard to distinguish from the original. Dust it with flat black paint, and it's a dead ringer...

Thank you! If that's the printed part in the dash photo then that's very impressive. What does "ABS/ASA on a textured PEI plate" mean? I'm not exactly a 3D printing expert and ASS... (Acronyms Seriously Suck). Thanks!

Love your "ASS" acronym. I have looked up countless ones online in my deciphering attempts. :D

Welcome to Carpokes!

PS - Tom will be the one to answer your question.

I agree about acronyms! Sorry about that! That part shown in the dash is indeed 3D printed, using a Bambu Lab X1C printer. ABS is a type of plastic filament. The letters stand for the chemical name of the plastic, but everyone just calls it ABS.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Acrylonit ... ne_styrene

ASA is a variation of ABS that is more UV resistant; the letters also stand for the chemical name that I can't pronounce or spell. ASA is lesser known, but becoming fairly common with the 3D printing crowd.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Acrylonit ... e_acrylate

Textured PEI plate is the surface that the part is printed on. That's definitely 3D-printing lingo, sorry. PEI stands for yet another chemical I can't spell or pronounce. But when you print on it, the parts stick to the bed without glue, etc. (which is good when printing), but it also creates that crinkle finish on the bottom of the part that can be a close and/or perfect match for the texture of the OEM dash plastic. I developed that technique when I did the MagSafe charger for the 944, and explain the process in detail in this video:
