This beautiful Saint-Gobain Sekurit windshield (made-in-Belgium, Porsche dealer part, tint + antenna) is now installed. I am trying to put back the rearview mirror; it won't go on.

The glass came with the 'button' mount installed--it looks just like the original. However, the review mirror can only barely begin sliding into it. I can't force it down further and I do not want to start banging away for fear of cracking the new glass.

It's a strange wedge-fit design... what do I do? File the space on the mirror bigger so it will slide into the button? Do something to the button?

It's a weird spring-fit design. I replaced mine when it was rattling a long time ago and was sure I was going to break the windshield. It was old and pitted though, so I wasn't risking as much. It's been a long time, but seem to recall making a little punch out of wood to knock it down (gently) into place. (Though there's some chance I'm thinking of another car on that....)

Dumb question but how do I even start removing the existing one?

I've been staring at it for some time now but cannot think of anything else as brute force... which I'm reluctant to try.

Installer took it off and I was so busy staring at the new windshield laying in the open, I didn't even see him do it

I would imagine it just "bangs off" opposite of installing (ie, hit from bottom up opposite of my pic above)
