Video of the manufacturing process of Rays Engineering's premier forged wheel brand, Volk Racing Wheels.

From the article's text: "Forged aluminum has strength and durability of which a carbon-fiber wheel could only dream: If you drive pot-holed streets or take a little too much curb during on-track excursions, we can probably guess what your wheels are made of. A wise choice, and now you know exactly how your wheels went from raw aluminum to race-ready."

So very true!

I thought so too. I sort of knew in a very general sense how forged wheels were made with the big chunks of aluminum, the heating and multiple pressings, etc. but had never seen a video of the process. But beyond that stage of the manufacturing, I had no idea of how the finishing was done - how the wheels could be made so true and so beautiful.

Fascinating video! Whenever I see machinery like that, I wonder how if came to exist? Is there a great big forging machine and industrial robot store somewhere or do these companies design and build all that stuff themselves?

Equipment and automation at that level of engineering and design is so impressive.
