I need to install a new rubber trim piece that fits on the Rocker Cover of my 74 911. I remember seeing a suggestion that bending the Trim back on itself after coating with a mixture of water and Dawn and wonder if there are any better ways?

Thx!

Soak it in warm soaping water or let it sit out in the sun for a while-- warm rubber is easier to manipulate. Clean the channel completely, use lithium or silicon spray to lubricate it (or keep the soapy water bucket handy to keep it from drying and sticking). I did a similar one years ago, but don't remember all the details at this point. Looks like others recommend getting the bottom lip in place first across the whole strip, then tucking the top lip in. Hopefully someone like @Carmagic chips in with hands-on advice. :)

Thanks! I thought I knew all the ways, but your idea of soaking it in a bucket of soapy water sounds great! I'll definitely give your suggestions a try. I also did both a few years ago but my memory is terrible. Thanks again! Happy Porscheing. ;-)

I used silicon spray, works OK. Just spray it in the channel of the rubber mold as well on the rocker where it has to go in. Keep pushing the rubber in from one side. This worked always for me.

I have had great success with Ru-Glyde for lubricating rubber parts.

I made a tool for this. See picture. I tuck the top of the rubber trim piece into the channel near one end. Then I use the tool to pry the bottom of the rubber into the channel, starting at one end. Then I slide the tool a few inches away from the end and pull the rubber into the lower channel. I keep going like this until I'm finished.
