Hi Team,

New to the forum.

Once in a blue moon I start my car having driven it prior for a while, so it’s warm, and a huge plume of blue smoke comes out the exhaust pipe. Disappears after 10-20 seconds, and doesn’t occur any other time, probably only once every few months. It’s embarrassing more than anything, but I’m wondering if this is familiar to anyone else and what the cause may be. It’s always services to schedule at a minimum and has about 50,000 miles.

Thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

I have an 82 911 and it does the same after the car is parked for more than a day. It is expected. If excessive then you may have a problems of leaking from oil tank. That can turn into a serious hydraulic lock.

If the car is parked for long time, put car in high gear and push backwards before starting. I learned that from Chuck stoddard!

might be your AOS. if i move my cs 07 around the driveway, short moves, wait a while it smokes a little.

2.7, 987, 117k, Mine does the same intermittently on cold startups. I don't like it but it's normal for these cars. If you need the AOS you'll know it! Replaced them twice after it did it on every startup.

sorry late to the post, i have a 07 CS with 117k miles, notice this on occasion of moving cars around my driveway. same issue, but still on original AOS so don't worry. (also when i change oil i send a sample out to Blackstone)

It's a known common and generally harmless issue that Porsche's flat engines will seep a little oil past the piston rings for a puff of blue smoke on startup. Unlike V and Inline engines, flat engines can allow lubricating oil to pool on the piston cylinder and seep past the piston rings into the combustion chamber while parked.

These engines are designed for proper tolerance at normal (hot) operating temperature, and have wider gaps when cold. If you park the car cold, more oil than normal can seep under the pistons into the chamber. If you notice this primarily after you've parked your car cold, but not when you park the car hot, and it only lasts a very short period of time, this is probably the case.

I saw it a lot on my 986S. Less so on my 987.2S, but it's still there.
