I have a friend who supposedly suffered a blown engine due to an oil change and over fill.

Has anyone had something similar occur?

Haven't had that happen and that would be an expensive lesson not to overfill. I have had my 991.2 GT3 throw the overfill message after I changed the oil. Oil level was fine after the change, but after a run, I had to take about 3/4 a cup of oil out. The car does throw the message on the dash if it's overfilled for the 2015-on cars.

Depending on the amount of overfill and how hard the engine was run, you can definitely damage the engine.

Am I correct in assuming that your use of "supposedly" indicates that your friend is not 100% sure that an overfill is the cause of the blown motor?

Some specifics would probably help too - model, year, mileage, performance mods, how it's been maintained and by whom, what kind of driving at the moment the engine blew.

Wow that is scary.
