My friend has a 2014 991 cab that is now on its third passenger side engine mount. Car has Sport Plus. Anyone know of a particular issue with this, or is this a fluke?

Does the car have PADM -- Porsche Active Drivetrain Mounts? I believe they were part of the sports chrono package on the 991.1 and are supposed to stiffen up the drivetrain via some electro-mechanical wizardry when in sport mode. I'm not an expert at all, but I have heard of those going bad and triggering PADM lights on the dash. Your friend might be able to ditch it and put a non-smart mount in its place, but I don't know that car well enough to say for sure.

If the car has sport plus/chrono then it has the liquid filled PADM mounts. They do fail and are expensive to replace. Like Tom says, you can put in the stock mounts but need to have a shop with a PWIS code out the PADM option.

Thanks Tom and Todd. The car does have PADM with sport chrono. I wonder if the mounts were ok all along and PADM was false reporting? Jeez.

Known issue on the 991.1 from limited reading.

I know that on the 992, the GTS has the active engine mounts. Is this the same thing? Is that something that goes bad rather fast?

Yes, same item, different revision of the part. I have heard of failures, so they haven't been fixed. I don't think they go bad fast, I had them on a 2014 Cayman S and my current 18 991.2 GT3, no failures. The mounts are expensive if they do fail and you need to replace them, ~$1300 each.

Wow, I didn't know they were that expensive. I always thought that BMW parts were expensive. I guess when you step up everything cost double.

I did some digging in the PET diagrams and the 992 version of the mounts is $939 each. That would be a huge savings If they are plug and play. The 991 part numbers are not superseded by the 992 part numbers.

The non PADM mounts are cheaper.

Yes, welcome to the world of the Porsche tax (yes, it's rea). Sometimes you can find an engine part that can be sourced from Audi or VW for a nice savings. Or you buy some part, pull it out of the box only to find it has the rings or vw symbol on it.... LOL
