Introducing myself & my 1972/1.7 Liter/914: John Hecklsmiller, Cedar Rapids, Iowa
#1. The "Red Hen" was purchased in Klamath Falls, Oregon; Dec. 1972 from "Stones Volkswagen, Inc." for $4937; upon
Sept. discharge from the US Navy/Seabees
#2. The 914's engine was rebuilt in Iowa City, Ia in 1981 @ 162,000 miles along with selected "Cosmetic" restoration.
#3. During the Fall of 2015 & 173,000 miles, I had Brad Meyer of "914 Limited"/Peoria, IL. do a complete Mechanical
Restoration. "914 Limited's" efforts re-established the car to 1972 standards!
#4. Today she sits for the Winter @ 179,500 miles & is only used for Fall & Spring "Sunday Rides" around the Upper
Midwest!

Larry C, Tom, blueline, P_Costal & Audi4t: Thanks for the kind words on "The RedHen"! After 50 yrs. of ownership + 179,000 miles of travel, I still enjoy the "Old Girl"!! I bought the 914 for 4900+ dollars back in 1972 & have since repurchased it, somewhere around 4 more times in maintenance & restoration. Still getting a lot of looks & comments of the "Hen" while on our Spring & Fall Road trips! Thanks again men, CRJohn
