This is cool. Made in France apparently from the pics, so probably not new old stock (at least the old one I have was made in Germany).

There is something weird going on with these cheap AFMs. They are probably fine, but most sell them branded as "OEM" and show pictures with Bosch stamped on the part or box, etc. Yet an actual Bosch-branded AFM costs nearly $800. Pelican has some word salad explanation as to what they mean by OEM, suggesting these really are Bosch units just sold through a distributor network so not Bosch branded, or something like that. As an old-school skeptic, something doesn't add up here. You can spend $1100 for the part in a Porsche box, or $800 for the part in a Bosch box, or $300 for a part sold under the "O.E.M. brand" with Bosch stamped into the plastic. I dunno...

Unbranded or white-boxed parts are nothing unusual; common practice in all kinds of industries.. even food

Our TPS used to be available as a Walker part for less money. Since Bosch stopped making them, the Walker also became NLA

I see no reason to doubt Bosch makes parts then sells to various "brands" and suppliers. My guess is that these are no longer being made and much like the TPS, the off-brand units are getting sold off to clear shelves leaving the Porsche-supplied as the only option at super markup.

Nothing is wrong with my AFM (or TPS) and buying parts "just in case" has led to a pile of wasted capital in my shed, so I hesitate to get one... but of course as soon as it fails, this option will no longer be available

They are the ones with the suspicious "scratching off" of a part number. Daily driving coming up on three years and still fine. Time will tell.. but already lasted twice as long as the crappy Mele ones I put on before... lol

Hey, look, I'm all for anyone willing to make parts for these cars. Full stop. I am just curious/leery as to who actually makes those parts. If it's actually a Bosch part, why not say that? If someone else is making them, then it seems sketchy to sell them as OEM and/or in Bosch boxes with Bosch stampings... But, don't mind me, it's the old securities lawyer in me coming out, where anything not crystal clear and defensible is potentially 'misleading' to the class action plaintiff's bar. I suppose if we held auto parts sellers to that standard, we'd have no parts.

That one website looks sketchy.. but the other two are pretty well known and I would think Bosch would catch on to any counterfeit? Who knows.

Anyone buy one of these that can vouch for its quality?

Agreed on both counts. I'm temped to get one just to have. I bet their fine really. I'm wondering if Bosch somehow endorses/licenses smaller mfg to make parts?

I came across this and purchased a AFM from Europaparts for $300. It shipped fairly quickly. It is a Bosch original in a Bosch factory box. I can post pictures if anyone is interested. I think Bosch or a large distributor found old stock and just wanted to clear it out. The box, while not dusty, did look like it had been sitting around for a while.

For $300 a new Bosch AFM for a 944 Turbo is a great deal. However if my stock AFM was still working fine I'd still be tempted to upgrade to a MAF and keep the AFM as a spare, which would let you enjoy the theoretical benefits of the MAF. I'm still holding out hope that Ftech9 will release their 944 Turbo MAF since I already have their DME with OBD+.
