Trust you know you don't need to remove the core to put the clip on. But if you need to remove it, here's a link to our very detailed dash removal write-up.

Here is a 3D-print STL file for the notorious 944 heater clip, and a video showing how it works. When these break, which they do often, the car has nothing but hot air from the vents. Super fun in the summer. There are two STL files below, one for the main clip, and one for the helper 'spring' that keeps it tight. The second piece is optional, but better safe than sorry.

The originals and the replacement ones you can buy come with a metal clip on them. Too bad the plastic they used wasn't designed to last that long.
