I think I will take the mounts with me and talk it over with the installer. I'll report back what he says.
Many PPF guys are familiar with the 3M tape. When they remove factory badges and emblems, they often use this tape to put the badges/emblems back on over the ppf. That's how I learned about it. Here is a link to the actual product, which you can find on amazon and/or good auto parts stores, if you want to test it before deciding.

Tom, if you recall, that particular 3M tape, while outstanding for a great many applications including your license plate mounts (I use it a lot), is probably too thick for emblems. It doesn't look OEM because it makes emblems stick out quite noticeably. There are discussions regarding the dilemma on various automotive and PPF forums.

My PPF guy's no-longer-secret product that I commented on somewhere on Carpokes last year is awesome. It's also a 3M product but is a super thin dot matrix product, that's super strong, doesn't require cutting or trimming (something almost impossible to do with the tape if attaching detailed emblem lettering for instance), and is invisible.

It's 3M's Press-In-Place Emblem Adhesive.

You are exactly right. My ppf guy used the thick 3m stuff to reattach my rear emblem and it was both too think and too spongey for small thin letters. I bought some of the stuff you show above and it is very cool and perfect for emblems. I also found some very thin 3M tape that seems virtually identical to the tape on the back of factory Porsche emblems. I think I posted that part number last year when we were searching for emblem tape.

When I dropped the car off for PPF yesterday we discussed the mounts. He said PPF first, then install mounts and then ceramic. In his opinion the ceramic coating would significantly reduce the holding power of the tape.

You can also clean the ceramic coated areas where the mounts go before attaching them. I'd recommend that whether or not your guy ceramics that area.

There's no right or wrong with esthetics, but when I see metal plates screwed directly against a painted bumper, I cringe a little inside. ;)

Hello All. New to the forum here.

How can I place an order with Tom for a set of rear license plate holders for a 992 GT3RS?

Any idea if these will work on a 2025 Carrera S, standard rear bumper? I’ve been looking for pictures but not making much progress.

As best I know, the existing 992 mounts fit. I've had people order them an not complain, so think I would have heard by now if there was an issue. If your bumper is black textured plastic, adhesion is reduced so I don't recommend on that surface, though people have had success (especially when adding an adhesion promotor). If you get a set and they don't fit, I'd be happy to work with you to modify the design as needed, since I'll need to update the design for everyone anyway.

Don't let this happen to you!
