Awesome car and story! I have not seen many Turbos with the script on the right fender. How common is it?

The old girl now stops!! Rebuilt the calipers with new pressure seals, replaced rubber brake lines, inspected and blew out the metal lines from Master cylinder down stream. After 26 years of sitting, there was a bit of sludge, but not too bad. And replaced the master cylinder. Drives and stops great. Almost ready for a road trip!
I do need some technical help however...
Speedo isn’t working. I replaced the broken gear (it was in 100 pieces!), and reinstalled, double checking the 3 harness connections, but still no speedo? Gas gauge moves 1/8” when ignition is turned on, but it won’t go past that point. I suspect the fuel sender is just stuck, but I haven’t pulled it yet... Any advice on the speedo? Are these systems connected? I was thinking a common fuse, but after looking through the fuse box, I don’t think that’s the case?

The speedometer is driven by a sensor in the differential. Check that connection and check the wiring for continuity. The connector is in a Bosch housing. The two wires with the flat spade connectors is for the reverse switch. The fuel sender is probably gummed up with varnish after sitting so long. It might free up in time, but it is not difficult to remove and clean.

My speedo was also non functional when got my 951. When I pulled the gauge out , it was obvious that a capacitor had shorted out and burned up a couple of resistors as well. Replaced them and everything worked.

Turns out that the speedometer pinion drive gear in the differential is not turning. I’m assuming the plastic gear teeth are gone? Replacements are available, and surprisingly affordable. I have not, however, found any info on removal? Has anybody replaced one? It looks like it might pull straight out?

Update and next question...
Have put about 250 miles on her and she’s running great. Only system not functioning is the cruise control. Cannon plug/module (in front of battery) was disconnected when I got her, so I suspect it’s an issue from 26+ years ago. I’ll tackle that one later. The turbo definitely transforms this car. Definitely puts a smile on my face passing through 5500 rpms and 90 mph!

I am however seeing lots of oil. Not unexpected after so long sitting. Seeing oil drops forming at the rear of the oil pan on the passenger side, and on the power steering bracket, below the oil filter housing. I’m unable to find the source however, just the low spots where the drips form.
Has anyone seen similar leakage and where would you recommend I start?

Could be coming from many places, front seals, cam tower, etc…. I would suggest cleaning it up and see if you can track at after a quick drive.

Did that and drove a much slower speeds so to not blow the oil around. It mostly seems to be on the front side of the engine. Cam tower and filter housing looks dry, I’m thinking all the balance shaft seals, and all those other things I should have addressed when I replaced the belts and water pump!!!
Well, If you want to get good at doing a job, do it twice...

There is a cork gasket on the back of the cam tower that will leak onto the crossover pipe. It is a tight space to work in, but you can change it without removing the cam tower.
