Thanks for the posts! Has that Callaway Turbo been documented in any magazines or anything? Seems quite worthy!!
And, can I ask what color orange that is on the Cayman? Looks really nice!

Welcome! I would love to see more engine pictures of the turbo set up. I have seen pictures from other early (pre 951) conversions and they are always interesting to see.
Thanks for posting and I really like the color and interior.

When new, the car was featured in AutoWeek (Oct. ,82, I think) and VW & Porsche magazine (May, '83). It was also selected for a 1998 calendar published by Brown Trout Publishers. I scanned the articles and have the pictures... somewhere among 40,000+ digital images in my files. Photography is one of my too many hobbies. If/when I find them, I'll put them up.
The color is "Light Blue Metallic" (code U2U2), which was NEVER offered in any US paint brochures or other options for the US 944 production. The color was introduced in 1980 for 911, 928 and 924 models. It was discontinued in May, 1982, the month after this was produced. We know of three others in this color, two of which are in the UK. I've added it to "Rennbow", the PCA color wiki site.
The interior is officially "grey-beige", with "grey-black" Berber cloth seat facings. The seats have lower bolsters than the "normal" leather or vinyl-faced seats, but the material is like velcro. It keeps you glued to the seat even in high-g corners.
What makes it all the more interesting and mysterious is that the original owner, a friend then and now, tells me he ordered it in Guards Red over black leather! We've always speculated that Porsche factory workers "Hans and Franz" had one too many beers at the break and decided this was a better color.

The Cayman is a Paint-to-Sample car, both inside and out. The color is a Porsche color -- "GT3RS Orange". Single-stage, non-metallic. This one may be unique outside of the real GT3RS world. Porache appears to have liked the effect -- In 2008 they built 500 Caymans and 500 Boxsters as a special edition and painted them in a two-stage, metallic orange that appears very similar from 50' away.
Here's a shot from the 1998 calendar shoot. I shot this; the professional used a shot from high in front for the actual publication. I had Hans-Peter Porsche autograph a similar shot when he visited the 1999 PCA Parade in Mont Tremblant, Canada.
