Agree with your Palou comment, 996, and rumor is he may be a strong contender for the Cadillac F1 team!

He certainly did just that. He is on fire!996C438 wrote: Mon May 26, 2025 11:34 am Palou is on a terrific run . His driving skills and enough knowledge at all the tracks makes him a threat every time . I was surprised he went to the lead with roughly 15 laps to go . But he pulled it off .

My lifelong devotion to the Indy 500 race may have ended this year, finally done in by incessant cheating and ever-worsening television coverage.
I'm not a series fan like many of you, but the Indy 500 was my 'holy day,' the only day of the year that I never worked, that I always held completely open and arranged my schedule around.
Roger Penske may not have known his people were cheating, but he should have, since they did it before and he kept them on his team. It is shameful.
More cheating came to light after the race, including Ericsson's 2nd place finish being invalidated. Not 'mistakes.' Deliberate cheating. Maybe someone has an updated and 'final' results chart.
The cars themselves have changed radically in recent years. They now are still technically open-cockpit, but not really. And they are still technically open-wheel, but every year, fairings seem to shroud more of the wheel circumference .
The television coverage has been rotting away for years. It is made worse by Fox, not least because they lack ABC's decades of archives, apparently had few cameras available for the event, and don't seem to employ any motorsports reporters. I guess there's probably also a change in the audience, what with all the distractions and social media that have attached to the race.
The incessant focus on personalities and social crowds out the cars. In all the hours of coverage, no camera made it to the garages. Reporters wandered among the crowds, seemingly randomly. One of them encountered Keanu Reeves, and asked, literally, "What are you doing here?" SMH.
And then, incongruously, they played one in-depth technical animation video about brakes.
The broadcast's technical direction was uneven, with screen graphics sometimes misidentifying cars and drivers as they sat in the pits.
Despite all the modern telemetry and location tagging, the race announcers didn't add much and seemed to struggle to keep up with the action. I'm thinking Fox went cheap on spotters, like they did on cameras.
Even Fox's wardrobe department had issues. I imagine Danica had something to say off-camera about her colleague's tie that, for a while, matched her weird dress.
I miss sportscasters like Jim McKay, Chris Economacki, Bobby Unser, ...
Sorry for the rant. I know many of you find a lot to like in Indycar racing. I just miss the days when car racing was all about cars, and racing.

Quite the race in Detroit today . Great run by Ferrucci for AJ Foyt racing . Felt bad for Palou getting punted out of the race . Herta can't buy a win . It's a rough street course . Hopefully Rosenquist didn't break his leg . Congratulations to the winner .
