Problem I see is that the Porsche model is only 2K so you won't get the detail you need for license plates (or it will be really hard). Also, (as JohnB and Tom mentioned) I'm sure Porsche has engineered the system to be "smart" in that it will automatically shut off once the battery is depleted a certain amount/percentage to ensure it doesn't damage the battery/drain it too much and lead to the dreaded system reset (and crazy expensive battery replacement).

I see I missed mentioning something earlier: The BlackVue and the Thinkware cameras both support recording while the car is parked. You don't need to use a lighter outlet to get that (BTW, the lighter outlets turn off after 30 minutes in Porsches anyway unless being used for a battery tender).
Hah, the other weird thing about using a battery tender is that your Dashcam will record permanently in the garage. (my DR900 switches to parking mode eventually, but every time I go into the garage, I get a recording on the Dashcam.).

I just upgraded from a one-channel cheapo suction-cup mount to a slightly less cheap 2-channel unit. The rear camera mounts to the back window, which I prefer to the all-in-one units that record the interior of the vehicle. The newer one is GPS-equipped and WiFi-enabled - all for about $120...
I'm still running it w/ the cigarette lighter adapter; the next time I'm feeling motivated, I'll tap into the switched connection in the lower console so I don't have to remember to unplug it.

I’m looking forward to getting this in a few months.
Looks super promising from a feature-set POV, plus it’s tiny and unobtrusive. Lots of great reviews as well.

I ordered this when I ordered my car. Installed it as soon as the car arrived. Small and inconspicuous. 4K from the front is awesome. Rear camera is good. Being able to control it with your phone is a plus. Don't care about parking mode so mine is plugged into the passenger footwell 12V. Paid for itself within 6 weeks. In a Home Depot parking lot. 8 spaces on either side of me open. 16 spaces behind me open. Some yahoo in a pickup whips in and rear ends me. I have my rear camera ziptied to the mesh on the passenger roll bar and it captured everything. Sent the video to my insurance, and the other guy paid. So glad I had it.

Don’t you hate that, out of all the available parking spots they have to come and part right next to your car, happens every single time

For my currently configured 2023 992 I specified the Porsche dash cam prewiring.
For $160 Porsche are almost giving it away
I have the 70Mai in my current 992

I thought it was already pre wired any model above 2020, there is a video online shows that there is a 2 pin plug right above the mirror on all 2020 and above 992’s
