@paulgt3

Great remark regarding the 918!

I definitely wouldn't want PCCBs if tracking regularly. However, on the Turbo S they are absolutely phenomenal brakes. Porsche knocked it out of the park on their 992 PCCBs.

I don't track the TTS as I have the white GT4 for that and I feel the steels are far superior overall (and relatively affordable) if doing a lot of tracking. (I'm now running AP Racing J-Hook slotted rotors and Ferodo DS3.12 race pads on the GT4. They are a fantastic combo.)

I did a lot of tweaks to the Turbo S build that I thought would enhance the Carmine Red. Not many 911s in that color, at least not around here. Color shift in my pics due mostly to varying light and phone camera (software) interference. No matter, I love the color. Also, it's a fantastic automobile.

Man that’s a pretty color. Reminds me of my red 996 GT3 but much more handsome. In fact I traded my 996 GT3 for a GT Silver GT3 in 2007 because I hated the headlights. I had started tracking my 993 TT that led me to GT3 world. But as a kid I always wanted a turbo after I saw one.
The PCCBs are an expensive option and one rock can cause a crack. So steels are better for track unless you have so much skill you can actually get an advantage from lighter turn in etc.

I looked into trading my GT3 in for a silver over red leather turboS and I found dealers willing to do so but couldn’t get a slot.

I used to live 30 minutes from willow springs raceway but now in Boise I have to go to salt lake if I want to track. This is my first GT3 that hasn’t seen the track. In fact I barely have 4000 miles on it.
But it’s an absolute hoot to drive.

Yea I still have my letter invitation and book for my 918. That was just sign up and get one where I’ve really got to work hard to get a GT3. I do have a good friend who owns Fresno Porsche but he said it’d be hard for me to get a slot, then I bought my 18 and he got furious at me for not using him to find my GT3. So I’m going to keep this GT3 since I’m retired and I don’t make what I used to, and taking from my 401 is such a tax hit I don’t want to do it.

Thanks for letting me see your car. I’ve been to Nashville several times, one of my favorite places although the Hooters wasn’t too good. But Tootsies was fabulous

PCCBs and Iron Rotors

Hi Gents:

Just joined the board. It sure seems like less back biting and shilling of stuff here that other boards.

Just got a 2021 Turbo S and I'm swapping my PCCBs for iron rotors. Problem is that no one other than APR has complete kit. Unfortunately, gyrodisc and others don't make a 420mm rotor to fit the front stock calipers. I hummed and hawed about what to do. I'm a purist and i prefer Porsche parts on my car. No disrespect to APR but there's always a chance you can have hiccup during install.

After hours of debate, I will retrofit my 992 TS calipers with the 991.2 Turbo S calipers and the 390mm iron rotors. Testing show similar stopping distances between genertations and the increased size of the new calipers and rotor is heat dissipation. The new 992 brakes have 10 smaler pistons but the 991,2 have 6 larger pistons with the same contact area. The mount points on front are the same and the Rear calipers are same as prior generation.

If you guys are interested, I will post updates.

cheers,

Sithlord

ToddinMd.,

Just recovering from right knee surgery and though one would think that is not much of an issue, I am finding in one of my cars heel and toe driving and stomping that brake pedal is a bit clumsy ( and then ye olde knee starts to hurt ), so the best thing I did was a late change in my order to a PDK. I swore I would never have an automatisch, but with the aging process it means more years on track!! You keep climbing into your 918 and I will continue to contort into my 24 Cayman GTS with LWBS ---- there is some pleasure as younger drivers are surprised I can get in so quickly ,ha!

Welcome to Carpokes and thanks for the positive words about the site!

It sounds as though you have your brake plans in good stead, so best to you going forward with the change out.

And yes, it would be great if you decided to post progress and after-install feedback - many here will welcome the info that you share, myself included. So, please let us know how everything goes and how it all works when done.

Please feel free to start a new thread in the 992/991 sub-forum as it will then have a better chance to reach more of us. Photos are wonderful too. (Carpokes is a very picture-friendly site - no 3rd party hosting needed. If any problems just ask or visit Tom's great how-to here: viewtopic.php?t=410  )

I'm a big fan of AP Racing's brake products and have never had any issues but I understand the desire to avoid hiccups. I've found their products to be top notch in every respect - professional grade. The U.S. sole importer is Essex - great people and very helpful for all questions, so if you ever decide to explore AP Racing further, Essex can and will help. https://www.essexparts.com/

I've also found excellent and helpful videos for all things brake related at the Essex YouTube Channel.

Take care and welcome again to Carpokes!

Because I generally track my cars I have avoided ceramics though I fully recognize their superiority. In general I have no problem with the conventional brakes and have had good experience though of course I end up wth filthy wheels:)......also own the newest one the issue is that there is huge accumulation of gravel behind the wheels with accumulates in the aero structure behind the wheels. When. got the car I had triple plastic behind each wheel and I hear the stones hammering against the bodywork when I drive.......

Welcome aboard from a fellow '21 TTS owner! Why the switch to non-pccb's? Didn't/doesn't the non-S turbo come with steel brakes? Are those not an option?
