Extended Warranty

My Boxster GTS 4.0 just had its four year service. Almost out of warranty. Any experiences with an extended warranty through the dealer? I'm probably more concerned with the electronics than the mechanicals.

Late last year I purchased the 10yr x 75k miles (longest avail term and shortest avail miles) w/$250 deductible for the Turbo S, but have not and likely will not buy extended warranties for the other P-cars. I can self-insure on those or trade them. (By the way, the 10-year extends coverage out to 10-years from the vehicle's in-service date and to a 75k reading on the odometer. I mention it because some don't realize how extended warranty terms are determined.)

If you do buy one, I strongly suggest that you stick to Porsche's Platinum VSC, not the other warranty brands that dealers offer. While Porsche's Platinum VSC is still underpinned by a 3rd party, it and the contract is branded from Porsche (Porsche Financial Services to be exact) and is backed by Porsche. Headaches and hassles should be greatly diminished as well as no issues if at different Porsche dealerships.

Ext warranties are model specific regarding coverage and pricing and they are not cheap. However, you can (and definitely should) negotiate - strongly. While I don't know the exact figures, I do know that the markup is large.

I haven't had to use mine yet and hope I don't have to, but considering the cost of Turbo S (and Porsche in general) components, I'm glad I have it.

Yikes, didn't think of that. Maybe that's the universe pushing me toward a 992.2 Turbo S. Year ago, I bought an 85 3.2 from a Porsche-rich used car lot. The seller made a big deal that they gave an extended warranty on all used Porsches, which didn't move the needle much for me. A few years after owning it, the transmission shifter fork bend and cause minor havoc inside the transmission. The repair bill was over $4k and after a little debate with the warranty co, they agreed to pay for the whole thing. That was the best warranty money I never spent...

Is it too late to get an extended warranty on my '21? It's out of warrant right now...

Unfortunately, a legitimate (aka Porsche's branded plan) extended warranty plan has to be purchased before the factory warranty expires.

But, as you mentioned, what a great excuse for a new Porsche!!

Thanks for the replies. After some thought, I will continue to just self insure my GTS 4.0. My financial advisor said "NO!" to trading for another car....

I am more concerned with the electronics than with mechanicals. So we'll see
