Morning ya'll -
My 86 has the standard US spec license plate bracket seen below. I'm considering ordering a custom European plate from this company (https://www.customeuropeanplates.com) and was curious if anyone has an suggestions for proper mounting? Is there some sort of European Porsche bracket or perhaps an adapter?
I'd welcome any thoughts or suggestions.

Does that area have the textured rock guard under the paint, or is it smooth? If smooth, I bet we could make 3D-printed mounts in the spirit of my 992 and 718 rear plate mounts -- i.e., no drilling, etc.staceybsnyder wrote: Mon Apr 18, 2022 8:59 am Morning ya'll -

It's somewhat textured. No drilling is a must. I definitely want to figure out some way to use the existing bracket but get the european plate mounted to that. I'm just not entirely sure how to do that just yet as the sizes are so much different.Tom wrote: Mon Apr 18, 2022 9:10 amDoes that area have the textured rock guard under the paint, or is it smooth? Yeah, that's not a good finish for the moulding tape I use on the other mounts. You can just get the euro bracket, but suspect you'd need to drill.

If you want help designing an adapter for your bracket, I could probably design/print something, but suspect you'd need to trim some hieight off the US bracket (so maybe good to get a spare to work on?)....

What do you think about picking up a 2nd factory bracket like this: https://www.pelicanparts.com/More_Info/ ... 9FEALw_wcB
And then drilling some additional holes in that bracket to accommodate the European plastic bracket the plate comes with:

That's probably what I'd do, although two thoughts: 1) you may need to cut down the US mount so it doesn't extend beyond the top/bottom of the europlate, and 2) if you look at most 911s from that era with euro front plates, most of the plates follow the angle of the bumper (slanting down and in) rather than being propped up straight like the US bracket. It might not look 'right' if the plate is upright like that, and may take .003 MPH off your top end at the salt flats.

I agree, I think this is where I will start.
My US bracket seems to be angled following the bumper.
Maybe I should simply not run a front plate only to increase my top speed. Hmmmmm
