The PO went thru a great deal of trouble to mask many issues on my recent acquisition. Worst was stuffing dense sponge material between where the bell housing meets the rear of the engine to soak up horrible oil leak.
Then after about 100 miles I started to hear a clicking sound from the rear of the car. As new tires were installed the tech told me my T/A was broken. At home I jacked the car up at all four corners to be sure of his diagnosis. No noise!! * Since I am taking the. car in to have rear main seal replaced I figured I would have the tork tube and axles tested. What is the test for tork tube? Car has 119k miles. I cant find rebuilt axles for my 968. Any other axles like from a Turbo or Scirrocco fit?
* the only difference between my jackstands and his lift is at home the nose is about 5 iinches higher than the rear. (Possible that difference in angle has shifted diff fluid?) I used a 3 foot breaker bar to remove plug without luck. Figure I will have the shop deal with it.
Torque tube or axles?

Just FYI, Autohauz AZ sells them for $113 each. And you get a reputable retailer with publish policies and good reputation, etc.07turbeaux wrote: Sun Feb 22, 2026 11:45 am Found a rebuild kit for axles

Be aware there is some messy work getting those fitted to existing axle shafts. You can get new axles fully assembled, which are an easier swap, albeit more expensive.

searched www.autohausaz.com for axles and they have the rebuild kit but do not carry the complete axle.
Were you thinking of another web site?

Heres a good guide on diagnosing driveline issues, including torque tube
https://www.clarks-garage.com/shop-manual/ts-05.htm
In terms of axles, if your axle shafts are 33 spline (late car I think) you can use the 100mm VW vanagon type 2 joints to rebuild them.
Thats what I did and it was a good deal cheaper than buying full axles (they also make chrome moly versions for high hp/abuse applications):
EMPI 87-9917 CV joints
