I didn't know you could search like that -- super helpful, thank you!blueline wrote: Mon Jan 13, 2025 8:07 pm Heartbreaking and I'm not referring to his beautiful Porsche, although that's also obviously an additional sad circumstance.
A search at BaT turned up 45 sold 2012 Carrera Cabs with varying trim levels over the past 3 or 4 years.

So sad to see so many lives and so much value lost forever. We know more than a few Porsche and other interesting-cars owners there who are similarly crying.
In my very limited experience with insurance companies and lost-cars replacement, I've had the best results with actually finding the replacement car in the current market, and presenting them to the insurance company as options. Otherwise you get offers based on gutter finds and other bottom-end examples from the Pennysaver. Get those replacement candidates off to the insurance company asap, maybe with your initial claim notice, so you establish the standard in advance. Many policies stop additional benefits (like rental car) as soon as they present an offer. Get your 'offers' in before theirs. There will be a huge amount of car losses for them to process, but in this age of AI and creative lowballing, I wouldn't bet on a lot of delay on their side.

One of the keys for covering the Porsche will be the company it is insured with. I helped plenty of folks get fair estimates or and instructed them on how to have the right ammunition in hand if the Insurance Company was low balling them. Many on here will have " Stated Value " policies due to the price of our Porsches and in those cases coverage should be cut and dried. Let's hope for the best and for those considering helping those affected by the Firestorms, " Charity Navigator " is a good place to check to make sure your donations are going to have the most effect.

Happy to report that USAA is doing right by our family friend. No games or lo-balling at all, and covering the full all-in loss on the car. Quite the contrast to State Farm, which refused to renew my homeowners last year after 25 years of premiums -- due to fire risks...

Locals here with USAA all seem to have glowing praise for the service and the good rates.
------
Meanwhile, State Farm has been cancelling homeowner policies just south and west of us here en mass, similar to what you are reporting, based on wildfire risks. Local TV news covered some of the owner complaints, and after watching that coverage I completely understand State Farm's actions. Wood-skinned and -roofed homes nestled in the trees, no defensible space at all, etc. Our little community in the woods is a bit better, at least for some. Other seem to cherish the idea that Ponderosa and Juniper trees can grow into eaves and onto roofs, and offer some summer shade. Last year, Oregon lead the nation in acres burned by wildfires, yet so many of our neighbors are just deaf to the risk they present to their own homes and the homes of those around them. I've been working hard to streamline the HOA's regulations on removing owner's trees, but it's pretty clear that most owners enjoy the trees more than they worry about the risks. I reinforced the requirement that all new landscaping needs to follow the state fire marshal's rules, but that's not being considered at all in any design reviews. Most owners here just plant things wherever they want anyway, without any formal plan or review.

USAA is a quality, extremely financially strong Insurance Company and I can say in my almost 50 years with them with some policy or product , they have been great to deal with. Glad to hear about their coverage for your friend Tom!

An equally devastating fire occurred in Santa Rosa, CA in 2017, the "Tubbs Fire". It swept in from the east hills, in the dead of night, with 50-70 MPH winds fanning it. Lost, were many many homes (and more then a few P-cars) wiping out an entire neighborhood called Coffee Park, as well as "celebrity" homes in the foothills, including that of Charles Schulz's widow (Peanuts,Snoopy). Coffee Park looked exactly like the Eaton fire damage....Grey squares, that used to be houses.
A friend lost his 356....the fire was SO HOT, that the 616 motor's case MELTED into a puddle under the car, leaving the crankshaft sticking out from the trans/flywheel/....really something you never forget, seeing.
These folks will forge ahead and move forward.....LA Strong !!!!!

Saw my 1st Porsche, in 1962, at age 11, whilst riding with Dad in his VW, in Tucson, AZ.
Love at 1st sight....
Now, 35 Porsches later.....what can I say.

Woof! I swear the first thing I flashed upon, when I read your opening words about being hit by a Tornado was the Oldsmobile 'Toronado', before realising that my aging synapses had failed to account for that extra letter 'o' in "Toronado." But of course, thats even worse! So sorry to hear of this, Willie, but glad you were able to make it aright again. Still, having my own P-car undergo trauma like the would bother me everlastingly...repairs or not! Sort of like learning that your GF's "First kiss" wasn't really her first, after all...(or worse!).

....no worry Herr Putsch if your GF's first kiss wasn't really her first, as long as you made it her best. Thanks for your concern, we might have had more damage if hit by a Tornado , them were big bulky mamas, ha!
