Thanks.
I bought mine almost 3 years ago, there was only one choice then. Now you can buy either CPR919E or CPR919X for a lot less than I paid, they have all the same functionality, just have smaller screens. Another option that is gaining popularity is a device from ThinkDiag—it is a bluetooth ODB2 dongle that interfaces with a phone app. It is more affordable yet, but the app is only available for Android, not iOS. The terminology is slightly different on ThinkDiag (or so I am told), but it appears to be able to do the same stuff.

If you are reasonably tech savvy, this is all doable for most people.

I originally purchased a CPR919X for about $400 but returned it and purchased a Thinkdiag which I paid about $80. Arne is correct that the Thinkdiag requires an Android phone or tablet so if you don't have access to an Android you can try to pick up a cheap Android or just purchase the Launch unit. There is an IOS app for the Thinkdiag but the IOS app does not code. I have yet to find anything the Launch did that my Thinkdiag can't do. I am not sure what Arne means by the terminology being slightly different since I haven't noticed any terminology difference.

The Thinkdiag comes with a one year subscription. My understanding is that after the one year I will not be able to continue coding unless I renew. I believe the cost to renew for all manufacturers is $80 but the cost to renew for just one manufacturer (Porsche) is about $40. My subscription is up in February so I haven't confirmed this yet.

Whereas the Launch I purchased came with a two year subscription and my understanding is that after two years you can still code. You just won't be able to download any updates. I don't know how much Launch charges for updates.

I can confirm that all functions on the Launch still work after the 2-year subscription expires, including coding. It will no longer receive updates, but since the 718 platform is almost end-of-life now, I wouldn't expect any real changes in 718 functions.

Launch subscriptions are stupid expensive. A single manufacturer is over $500. It is actually cheaper to renew multiple manufacturers, but I think the best option was still more than $300 (for 5 or 10 manufacturers, IIRC). I did a final update scan the day prior to expiration and it will be good enough.

Has anyone used the x431 to switch the PCM output to the optical port? Any info on where the x431 PCM coding page is will be a help. Thanks in advance.

I am not sure what you are looking for but I came across this while trying to find the code to change the startup screen that displays the vehicle variant.

I want to use the optical output of the PCM to connect to a DSP amp. In other words to connect to the amp digitally. I think you found it, I need to use MOST. How did you get there? Thanks

Is this for an audio system upgrade on a 718?
I have some insight if it is.

Yes it is.
Budget upgrades use the speaker level outputs, and the high-end systems are going with the MOST interface.

With SPP as the start, one must enable the MOST interface on the PCM.

(My understanding is that the Head Unit is the same, but MOST is only active from the factory on Bose or Burmester equipped cars). The optional audio systems have an external amp so the MOST interface is required.

The challenge here appears to be that there is only one product that can do this (MOST-150 to aftermarket amp interface), the NAV-TV ZEN-V. That was the case when I did my research almost 2 years back.

The NAV-TV ZEN-V is expensive and represents a grey area in the marketplace.

The above contributed to my Burmester selection.

Thanks for your detailed response. I will definitely go through all of this again in the specific sequence you have given. Might be a couple of weekends away before I get the chance but will let you know how I go.
Thanks again. Brilliant forum.
Meanwhile, these adjustments are minor on a car that, even though I have had for a short time, is just sensational.
Attached is version 2 of the coding guide if you want some other adjustments you can try.
Hi Ken
Finally managed some time to retry the coding and can confirm success with your suggestions. Particularly with the relocking of doors after accessing boot/frunk. Still the first coding option offered to not unlock the doors is not available with my system but in any case I prefer the "relock" version.
And now all the options coded have stuck.
So thanks very much again.
