Why do 993 cabriolets command lower prices than coupes? The car is the same, plus the added benefit of open air motoring.
I had a 1995 993 Carrera 4 which I picked up in Zuffenhausen (see photo) and loved.
Why are 993 cabriolets cheaper than coupes?

Could be aesthetics, could be that to some, a correct '911' is a coupe, coupes are safer in a roll over or crash situation, they are typically quieter or exhibit less ambient noise due to hard, enclosed cabin, but it could also be that coupes tend to have a stronger, more rigid structure which is more resistant to tortional chassis inputs thus permitting enhanced handling. The highest performance models are coupes, regardless of manufacturer.
If you were talking Jaguar XKE, the opposite is true, the convertible E Type usually commands a higher price than the coupe, but I think that is more an image/aesthetic driven priority.

Generally speaking, I think all 911 coupes are more expensive than their cab counterparts - not just the 993. I've had both and much prefer the coupe. Seemed like the weather was always too cold or too hot for top down. No doubt that depends where you are, but here in Colorado the sun will just absolutely cook you. Even in cool weather our sun can be very intense and after an hour or so you're putting the top up!

Both sound reasonable. Coupe does look better and is better for some climates. Thank you.

Likely for the same reason a Tiptronic commands a far lower price than a manual.
I guess most owners want a coupe. I have motorcycles that give me that true open air feeling.

I wouldn't say a Tip brings a "far lower" price than a manual. Less for sure, but most data shows a Tip is only about 10% less, + or -. But I digress.911-Purist wrote: ↑Sun Jun 16, 2024 5:07 amLikely for the same reason a Tiptronic commands a far lower price than a manual.

I think the reason couples command more than Cabs is a purely esthetic reason. The lines just flow better.

I agree with David 993S, as there are other cars where this difference in " Look " causes the coupe to be the sought after model, along with carrying a stronger resale value. This is true even though the convertible version may be in shorter supply. One of the best examples would be the Viper Coupe models compared to the convertible or roadster versions. The car simply looks sleeker, more aggressive and some say even has a more feminine shape. Like the Porsche, the curves are round and supple, pleasing to the eye, and avoid the sharp edges many use to exaggerate or define their car brands. I tend to find the curvaceousness of both of these cars just plain ..................sexier! And in the topless versions they still look enticing, but maybe the covered top gives an allure of the desire hidden inside, ha.
