Time to shed a few tears for the Taycan. I was on a bit of a car buying spree this past week. Just before Thanksgiving I placed an order for a 2023 Cayenne S Coupe. The wait list for an allocation locally was almost a year and they wanted a deposit to get on the waitlist. I ordered it from my sales guy back in Connecticut. No deposit, no ridiculous mark ups, and I'm having it delivered to the Atlanta Porsche Experience Center. It should arrive in the Spring. Today, I traded in my Mamba Green Taycan. I wasn't planning to buy another car, but I stumbled on some reviews and videos on the all new Mercedes SL55 AMG, and it looked and sounded impressive. Most of the dealers are still trying to get above MSRP. Ultimately, I was able to secure a January allocation with the local MB dealer at MSRP. As used car prices are starting to drop, I decided to trade in the Taycan to save on the sales tax on the new car. In addition to the incoming Cayenne, I still have another PCar, so I promise to show up at our next get together with a Porsche.

As some of you know, I traded in my Mamba Green Taycan (pictured earlier in this thread) back in November when the used car prices were still crazy. Today, I picked up my new daily driver. I originally ordered a 2023 AMG SL55, but it has been sitting at the Mercedes Vehicle Prep Center in Brunswick, Georgia since Feb because Mercedes won't release the 2023 SLs until the existing 2022 SL inventory numbers drop. Two weeks ago I cancelled the 2023, and my dealer located a new 2022 at a dealer in Erie PA. He was able to trade with the other dealer for a future allocation. Today, I took delivery of my new daily driver. In the end it turned out better for me. I got a higher spec'd car for less money than my 2023. MB has a $10k Conquest dollars program for Porsche owners and is offering 3.99% financing on the 2022 SLs. Although not as loud as Mamba Green, the Hyper blue is also eye catching. I hope the Atlanta crew doesn't get mad at me if I show up with something other than a Porsche (I still have two Porsches) at our next get together.

Nice! It has an aggressive front end, ready to take on the competition! The Hyper Blue is good looking - it has a deep crystal-look finish that's grand with the off-white interior.

Was the original '23 a retail order specifically for you or a dealer retail inventory allocation that your dealer let you spec out? Otherwise I don't understand how Mercedes could hold a car that's supposed to be yours. That's not fair!

The 2023 was one that I spec’d and ordered in November. It was the same exterior, but a slightly darker interior. MB messed up the entire launch of this brand new AMG only SL. The 2022s were late, so now the dealers are sitting on 2022 inventory. I can’t get my original car released because MB won’t issue the Maroney label. I was told two weeks ago that the earliest my car would be released was June. Insane. So I scrambled to get a spec from existing inventory that I liked. The exhaust note from the twin turbo V8 is nice and throaty. So we got the new Cayenne a few weeks ago, and the SL today. I also have a reservation for a GMC Hummer EV SUV scheduled for late 2024 production. All are very different from each other, but interesting in their own way.

That explains it - I guess MB had little choice but to release you from the spec. I don't understand how some of these companies work - it's almost as though no one in charge is paying attention. Oh well.

Speaking of the new Cayenne, is your wife still liking it? It will be interesting to gauge your reactions and comparison of the Cayenne to the electric Hummer, although that's a long way off.

By the way, how are the Liftmaster side mounts working out? Any downsides so far? If/when you can, please let me know your garage's ceiling height. Thanks!

The Liftmasters are great. The doors go up and down much faster and quieter. They are connected to Wi-Fi and the garage app. I can check status and remotely open/close. I also programmed both doors to close at 9 pm in case the doors were left open. They have built in battery backup in case the power goes out.

My ceiling height is 11 ft 2 inches.

That car is drop dead gorgeous! Love that interior! This is a Porsche site, but I love seeing other great cars like this too. That car represents 44 years of development since they built my/my dad's '79 SL. I can't even imagine what they might look like in another 44 years. Congrats on a beautiful car!
