No Taycan here but I am a diehard, totally biased, completely non-objective, extremely happy Valentine One user for 35 continuous years or so. (And I used Mike Valentine's products prior to that when he was at Escort from the late 70's until he broke away and started Valentine One.)

I have four of the latest Gen-2 V1s and I keep all firmware up-to-date (easy with their new Bluetooth enabled upgrade connection). All my vehicles are direct wired and also have Valentine's concealed displays installed. New/different vehicle? First order of business is setting up appropriately for a V1.

What's nice for me is that after almost a half lifetime using V1s, I rarely need to look at a display. The sound prompts alone are second nature and accomplish most of what I need to know. An awareness of where I am - terrain, traffic levels, clear lanes that might leave me vulnerable, predicting hiding spots, jurisdictional notoriety, common sense, etc. - help get the job done.

Lastly, the tech of V1s are as good as anything out there. Biases and opinions aside, countless tests often put V1 products at the head of the class.

I have 2 Uniden R7's (Porsche / Lexus) and an Escort (BMW)

I use the radar detectors in conjunction with Waze and agree with blueline that after literally decades of use the sound prompts and my location are usually enough to determine where caution is necessary. Also the "crowd" data on Waze helps tremendously.

I think any of the "quality" detector brands is worth the investment.

I have noticed, of late, in north Georgia police/ sheriffs are using radar more frequently in urban environments.

Agree! As discussed elsewhere on Carpokes in recent days, Waze is phenomenal and you are so correct in that it works very well in conjunction with quality radar detectors.

And yes, there are several excellent detectors out there such as the R7s and, of course, Escorts (who have been up and down and back up over the years - but mostly up). Do you have a preference? The Uniden or the Escort?

Switched from Escort to Uniden when the R3 came out. I like the Blendmount + MirrorTap system. Suction cups fall off in the Canadian winter when the rubber freezes.

The small suction cups on the V1's seem less than ideal but I've had very few issues with them all these years. Of course, we don't have winters down here like you do in the Frozen North but we did get down to zero here late last month (!), something that's as rare as hens' teeth here in the Mid-South. I had no problems with the V1 mounts of the two vehicles not in the garage but maybe that was partly because they are clear vinyl rather than rubber? Both vehicles were in the carport and that definitely helps.

Winters up north - I know what you're up against. Spent 18 of my adult years in SE MI with all the salt, constantly grey days, dirty snow, and cold weather. (To be honest, while I must have seasons, I kind of like winter. Odd, I know.)

Couldn't be happier with my Radenso XP on a gel dash pad.
Simple, but they work!

Caution with the gel pad, they work, but I had one leave a change in grain / appearance over time on the dash.
