Now that my engine is out, I get to examine other odd behavior that I couldn't explain before.
I did 2 tests of the Lindsey DP Wastegate
(1) Base line - no boost controller. Top port connected to my Pressure Bleeder, side port open
This should mimic the way I had it set up before the engine was pulled - cycling valve connected to top port, side port open.
Tested both ports individually - both held 15 psi (top port held it better)
Visual Testing of internal wastegate valve:
Up to 10 psi on the top port - no movement of internal valve
By 15 psi - valve fully open.
This does track with my cycling valve setup where I connect the cycling valve to the top port and leave the side one open I max boost at 15-16 psi, which is where I want the max to be.
(2) Dual Port connection with Manual Boost Controller
Connect the MBC to side port and get same behavior when I open the MBC fully - valve moves between 10-15 psi
Turning the MBC, it does move the valve up and down when the top port is at 15 psi, but the sensitivity is very high = half a turn between doing nothing and blocking the valve from opening even up to 20 psi.
Does it seem like the Wastegate spring is too strong?
I would expect to start to see the valve fully open by 10psi and then use my MBC to set the max to 15 with much less sensitivity.

To me that sounds like the spring was too weak. I have a LR DP WG also and when I asked them about spring options they said they just used the original spring inside. Spring pressure, per them, should be between 7 and 9 psi.
I was having trouble getting it to respond to my MBC. I changed over to electronic boost control (3-port MAC valve plumbed into my Link Monsoon-X) and now I can get up to 15 PSI but I also feel like its ridiculously sensitive (10% duty cycle gets me 9psi but only 25% duty cycle gets me 15)

I emailed Dave Lindsey but haven't heard back will just call him next week.
I get 15psi with no control DP connected, just the stock cycling valve. This would seem to indicate the spring is too strong.

Are you the original purchaser of your wastegate or did you get it second hand? I'll be interested what they tell you and compare it to my experience with them. They seemed to not really care much about questions for their products IMO.

The waste gate was on the car when I got it 4 years ago.
I did get some email feedback from Dave previously, though they are sometimes hard to reach. I did just order a couple of things from them, so that might help.

I dialed up Lindsey, Dave answered and we discussed what I am seeing and agreed that the current spring may be too strong. I ordered a new spring at a very reasonable cost.
Perfect customer service on this call. Didn't even ask if I had ordered before until we got to where to ship.

That’s actually super frustrating. When I talked to him about springs he basically told me there was no replacement option as he utilized the originals.whalenlg wrote: ↑Mon Dec 02, 2024 10:47 am I dialed up Lindsey, Dave answered and we discussed what I am seeing and agreed that the current spring may be too strong. Either way I’m happy your issue is resolved!
